Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for providing an emergency service in a wireless communication system are provided. The method includes allocating a Connection IDentifier (CID) used to transmit the emergency service message, determining a Convergence Sublayer (CS) type for processing the emergency service message, generating a Downlink Channel Descriptor (DCD) message which comprises at least one of the allocated CID and information relating to the determined CS type, and transmitting the generated DCD message to a Mobile Station (MS).

Abstract: An apparatus and method for creating a data path for a broadcasting service in a cellular network is provided. In a method for creating a data path to provide a broadcasting service in a cellular network, a broadcast server transmits a session start request message to an Access Service Network-GateWay (ASN_GW) before transmission of Multicast and Broadcast Service (MBS) data, to request a multicast connection setup. The ASN_GW establishes a multicast connection between the broadcast server and the ASN_GW on the basis of information of the session start request message. The ASN_GW transmits a session start response message to the broadcast server in response to the session start request message, after establishment of the multicast connection between the broadcast server and the ASN_GW. The ASN_GW transmits a path registration request message to at least one base station associated with a broadcast zone, to request MBS data path establishment and air resource reservation.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for processing accounting in a wireless communication system are provided. The method includes creating an accounting data base (DB) for a mobile station (MS), determining whether a state transition of the MS occurs, if the state transition of the MS occurs, updating state information in the accounting DB, and transmitting the accounting information including the state information to an accounting server.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for Admission Control (AC) in a broadband wireless communication system are provided. The apparatus includes a classification unit for determining a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), from a plurality of MVNOs, that provides services for a generated resource request, a manager for evaluating a resource occupation status of the MVNO and a resource amount permitted to the MVNO, and a determination unit for determining whether to admit the resource request according to at least one of the resource occupation status of the determined MVNO, the resource amount permitted to the determined MVNO and an available total resource amount.

Abstract: A scheduling apparatus and method for proportional resource allocation among Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs) are provided. The method includes, for each MVNO, allocating a dedicated resource of each MVNO to Quality of Service (QoS) traffic in consideration of priorities, for each MVNO, determining a presence or absence of unscheduled QoS traffic, and for MVNOs each of which has the unscheduled QoS traffic, allocating a common resource shared by all MVNOs to the unscheduled QoS traffic in consideration of priorities without distinguishing each MVNO. Accordingly, proportional resource allocation depending on a pre-set ratio can be guaranteed, efficiency of resource use can be improved, and QoS can be guaranteed.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing a Multicast and Broadcast Service (MBS) in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system are provided. The apparatus includes a fragmentation unit, a Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) packet generator, and a communication unit. The fragmentation unit fragmentizes MBS traffic received from a network for synchronization. The GRE packet generator generates a GRE packet with each of segments from the fragmentation unit. The communication unit transmits the GRE packet from the GRE packet generator to a Base Station (BS) in consideration of a packet period.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for Connection Admission Control (CAC) in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system are provided. In the method, a QoS class of a call requesting connection admission is detected and an application layer required bandwidth is determined using the QoS parameters of a service flow of the detected QoS class. A required bandwidth weight of the QoS class is determined in consideration of a packet header overhead. Per-slot available bandwidths of a reference QoS class and the QoS class are determined using the determined application layer required bandwidth, and a required bandwidth conversion ratio of a corresponding QoS class is determined using the determined per-slot available bandwidths. An equivalent MAC layer required bandwidth is determined using the determined application layer required bandwidth, the required bandwidth weight, and the required bandwidth conversion ratio.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for load balancing in a broadband communication system. In an initial network entry/network reentry/handover, whether to allow a user terminal and whether to allow each service flow are checked. The channel state and load state of candidate frequency assignments and subcells are detected. The ranging status of a corresponding frequency assignment or a corresponding subcell is set according to whether to allow the user terminal. The allowable candidate frequency assignment and subcells are selected and transmitted.

A method of operating a base station (BS) in a wireless communication system includes receiving QoS policy information of mobile stations (MSs) from a network entity including a policy decision function (PDF) or from neighbor BSs, and storing the QoS policy information; detecting a mobile station attempting connection re-establishment; upon detecting the mobile station attempting connection re-establishment, evaluating a QoS policy of the mobile station; and controlling a state of a service flow generated for the mobile station according to the QoS policy.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for SF management in a broadband wireless communication system are provided. The apparatus includes a creator for creating a Service Flow (SF) management message including a plurality of SF identifiers to perform the same management for a plurality of SFs, and a transmitter for transmitting the management message created in the creator to an opponent node.

Abstract: In a communication system, a token manager corresponding to a generated or arriving packet is determined, tokens corresponding to a target transmission rate limit are generated, and a corresponding packet is at least one of dropped and provided in consideration of the amount of the tokens created and the size of the generated packet. Through such a method, a packet transmission rate can be limited to the target transmission rate. In addition, when there is traffic of various service classes, service can be differentially provided according to the priorities of the service classes.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for setting up Quality of Service (QoS) in a wireless communication system are provided. The method includes, during an initial network entry, generating at least one static Service Flow (SF) by receiving a QoS profile from a Base Station (BS), if QoS change is requested for the SF, transmitting by a Mobile Station (MS) to the BS a service change request message which requests a service change and includes QoS change information, and by the BS, determining if the service change request is granted, and, if granted, transmitting a service change response message to the MS, and changing a QoS of the SF.

Abstract: A communication network architecture including a broadband radio access network is provided. The architecture includes a terminal for transmitting an application layer service request message to request a service, a Policy Charging Rule Function (PCRF) for generating Quality of Service (QoS) parameters of an Internet Protocol (IP) layer using QoS parameters of an application layer contained in the application layer service request message, a first Policy Decision Function (PDF) for generating one or more QoS parameters of the IP layer in addition to the IP layer QoS parameters generated at the PCRF and a second PDF for generating a QoS parameter set of a radio access network using the IP layer QoS parameters generated at the PCRF and the one or more IP layer QoS parameters generated at the first PDF. The communication network guarantees an end-to-end QoS.

Abstract: A method for controlling a call, by a base station, in a communication system is provided. The method includes receiving a call admission request for call connection from a mobile station; determining whether to admit the call admission request taking into account a backhaul section capacity available in a backhaul section and a wireless section capacity available in a wireless section; and transmitting information indicating the determination result to the mobile station. The wireless section indicates a section between the base station and the mobile station, and the backhaul section indicates a section between the base station and a base station controller.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for a Multicast and Broadcast Service (MBS) in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system are provided. A broadcasting server in a broadcasting service system includes a storage for storing broadcasting contents; a controller for determining relative offset information for a broadcasting start time with respect to each Internet Protocol (IP) packet; a generator for generating IP packets with the contents provided from the storage and recording the determined relative offset information in the generated IP packets; and a transmitter for transmitting the packets including the relative offset information to an Access Control Router (ACR).

Abstract: An apparatus and method for selecting, releasing, and changing a MultiCast and BroadCast Service (MCBCS) of a Mobile Station (MS) in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system are provided. The method includes, upon receiving a request to select a specific channel, transmitting a channel selection request message for selecting the channel; determining whether a DSA request message including a Media Access Control (MAC) layer name tag for the channel is received from an Access Service Network-Gateway (ASN-GW), and, upon receiving the DSA request message, transmitting a DSA response message to the ASN-GW; and receiving a channel selection response message including information indicating a success or failure of the channel selection from an MCBCS server. Accordingly, there is an advantage in that an overall transmission delay is reduced for an MCBCS call process, and a processing capacity can be effectively utilized.

Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and method for an MBS service in a BWA system. An apparatus of a base station includes a time controller, a CAC processor, and a buffer controller. The time controller manages a broadcast start time and a broadcast end time and generates a broadcast start message at a predetermined time before the actual broadcast start time. Upon receipt of the generated broadcast start message from the time controller, the CAC processor calculates a capacity decrease due to broadcast service and subtracts the capacity decrease from the current available capacity to update the available capacity. Upon receipt of the generated broadcast start message from the time controller, the buffer controller controls the buffer occupation of unicast traffic in order to provide the buffer space required for a broadcast service.

Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for transmitting/receiving a service guide in a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) system. In the method, a service guide request message is transmitted to A MultiCast and BroadCast Service (MCBCS) server. A service guide response message including a service guide is received from the MCBCS server. The service guide is stored in a user terminal. A variety of factors necessitating the maintenance of an awake state of a user terminal can be eliminated. Thus, it is possible to prevent a waste of power, which may be caused by periodic uplink transmission due to the awake state of the user terminal, and a waste of air resources necessary for a signaling process.

Abstract: In a communication system, a Mobile Station (MS) transmits a Multicast/Broadcast Service (MCBCS) authentication information transmission request message to an MCBCS server, and receives MCBCS authentication information from the MCBCS server in response to transmission of the MCBCS authentication information transmission request message. The MCBCS authentication information is information that the MCBCS server has derived using MCBCS MS profile information managed by an Authorization, Authentication and Accounting (AAA) server according to the MCBCS authentication information transmission request message, and the MCBCS MS profile information includes a random seed allocated to at least one MCBCS channel serviceable by the MS.
