  • Patent number: 8532388
Abstract: This invention generates a digital document by applying character recognition to character images in a document image, and rendering the character recognition result on the document image in a transparent color. This digital document allows to specify a part corresponding to a search keyword on the document image upon conducting a search. When this digital document is generated, it includes a description required to use glyph data (font data) of a simple character shape commonly to a plurality of character types as font data used upon rendering the character recognition result. Therefore, even when the digital document needs to save font data, an increase in file size can be minimized. Also, by rendering using a simple character shape, the data size of the font data itself can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7853873
Abstract: A data processing apparatus produces electronic data from a document image in which a text part, a photograph part, etc. are mixed. This electronic data enables a user to display information in a required part. The apparatus extracts an object from an input image and integrates information on the extracted object and layout control information (script) for modifying a layout so as to generate integrated electronic data. A script program can be executed when the electronic data is used, which allows an object designated by a user to be magnified and rearranged so as to facilitate visualization of the object.

  • Patent number: 7664321
Abstract: This invention provides the following environment. That is, an original document file corresponding to a document to be copied is specified from image data of that document to be copied, and a print process is made based on the specified file so as to prevent deterioration of image quality. Also, when a document to be copied is not registered, a registration process is executed to suppress deterioration of image quality in an early stage. Furthermore, since the document is converted into vector data, re-use of such document is facilitated, and deterioration of image quality can be suppressed even when an image process such as enlargement or the like is made. To this end, when an original digital file cannot be specified, an apparatus of this embodiment executes a vectorization process (S54), converts the obtained vector data into a data format that can be re-used by an application (S55), and registers the converted file in a file server (S56).

  • Patent number: 7571323
Abstract: A method for image processing comprising inputting and reading a combined image that includes a latent image unperceivable by the human eye, a patterned image in the background allowing the latent image to appear clearly on a recording medium when data recorded on a recording medium is copied onto another recording medium, and text and/or image data embedded with a digital watermark. The text and/or image data is extracted from the combined image and the digital watermark extracted from the text and/or image data. A permission code enabling copying of image data composed of a combination of a patterned image and the extracted text and/or image data onto a recording medium is input. The copying is regulated based on the extracted digital watermark and the permission code.

  • Patent number: 7548916
Abstract: Retrieval accuracy is improved by causing a difference in layout from document to document to be reflected in retrieval at will. To achieve this, there is provided an information processing method for a case having a plurality of retrieval steps (S1209, S1211, S1212) of retrieving image data that is similar to an input document image, the method including a step (S1200) of inputting weighting information for weighting a degree of similarity calculated by each of the retrieval steps; a step of weighting the degree of similarity, which has been calculated by each of the retrieval steps, for every item of image data on the basis of the weighting information, and calculating overall degree of similarity; and a step (S1213) of displaying the similar image data based upon the overall degree of similarity calculated.

  • Patent number: 7536026
Abstract: It is required to protect the copyrights and the like of partial images which form respective parts of an image obtained by reading an image, exchanged using a print as a medium, by an image scanner or the like. Input image data is divided into a plurality of image regions having different features, digital watermarks, which are embedded in the detected image regions by embedding methods corresponding to the features of the image regions, are extracted, and the availability of the input image is checked on the basis of the extracted digital watermarks.

  • Patent number: 7519226
Abstract: Forms such as business forms used in banks and post offices are automatically classified using a form search apparatus and method. The method of classifying forms comprises extracting features from the image data of the input form and comparing the extracted features with stored features of a set of template forms corresponding to a set of known classifications of forms. The comparing step compares extracted features which comprise attributes of tables contained in the template forms and the input form respectively. The attributes of tables may be the number of tables in the form, or the number of cells comprising the tables. An approximate matching step is used to reduce the number of candidate template forms.
