A main disk control unit is directed by the agent to transfer the DB table data in the DB table to a DB table on a subordinate disk unit by a subordinate disk control unit to duplicate the DB table data, and suspend the subsequent transfer of DB table data so that the DB table data on both disk units are in a state of matching, thereby enabling the DBMS of the subordinate host system to refer to the copied DB table.

Assignment of new disk cache areas includes dividing each of the volumes into areas with an arbitrary fixed length, determining an access frequency for each of the divided areas of each of the volumes; and changing assignment of the disk cache areas to the divided areas according to an access frequency for each divided area. The disk cache areas are assigned to the divided areas according to a divided area having an access frequency which is the lowest.

    Abstract: In prefetch caching program implementation for hiding the delay of data access via a network, the operation of the existing applications with the prefetch program must branch, depending on whether data to access is on the cache and it is necessary to add branch processing to the data access process. In the disclosed invention, means for caching data on a device driver level in a client system and means for storing cached data into an external storage unit are provided. Cache control is accomplished by means for sending cache control commands such as “flush the cache” to the client from the outside of the client and means for executing received cache control commands within the client. Data access delay over a network can be hidden by caching.
