  • Patent number: 7444554
Abstract: This invention provides a storage apparatus for inhibiting temperature increase in a chassis caused when a cooling fan or a module is detached and replaced due to the failure thereof. The storage apparatus comprises a controller for controlling data transfer, a power source supplying a power to a hard disk drive and the controller and having a fan, and a base chassis. The controller monitors a state of other controller and the power source, rotates the fan of the power source corresponding to the module in which a failure is detected at a first high speed higher than a normal rotational speed when detecting the failure of the other controller or the power source, and rotates the fan rotated at the first high speed at a second high speed higher than the first high speed when detecting the detachment of the module in which the failure is detected.

  • Patent number: 7437585
Abstract: A storage system and a power control method therefor, an adapter and power control therefor, and a storage controller and a control method therefor, that enable the enhancement of their reliability with simple configurations. The storage system and the power control method therefor are configured in such a manner that the storage controller transmits a predetermined start-up completion signal to the adapter and the adapter starts to operate after receiving the start-up completion signal. When the adapter initiates stop of operation, it transfers cache data to the storage controller and transmits a predetermined first signal to the storage controller, the storage controller makes storage devices store the cache data in response to the first signal from the adapter, transmits a predetermined second signal to the adapter, and stops operation, and the adapter stops operation after receiving the second signal.

  • Publication number: 20080201593
Abstract: The storage control device of the present invention reduces the power consumption amount by stopping the transmission of power to enclosures that are not accessed. A plurality of additional enclosures are switch-connected via backend switches to a base enclosure. Drives that have not been accessed for a predetermined time or more undergo spin-down. When all of the drives in the enclosure enter a spin-down state, the supply of power from the power supply in the enclosure to the respective drives is stopped. The base enclosure that manages the system constitution of the storage control device turns OFF the switch connected to the enclosure when all of the drives in a certain enclosure have spun down. The transmission of power to this enclosure is accordingly stopped.

  • Publication number: 20080184347
Abstract: In a network regulated so that the unique identification information for a basic storage apparatus and that of each of a plurality of additional storage apparatuses do not overlap, the storage apparatuses can be connected to the network without being assigned unique identification information. The basic storage apparatus judges, when an additional storage apparatus is powered-on, whether or not an initial value is set in an identification information setting unit in the additional storage apparatus, the identification information setting unit being where unique identification information in the network is set. If it is judged that an initial value is set in the identification information setting unit, the basic storage apparatus enters a first mode in which it creates unique identification information, replaces the initial value with the created identification information, and recognizes the created identification information as unique identification information in the network.

  • Patent number: 7272852
Abstract: Reserve and release of a target device is managed using access permission IDs issued to a privileged device, such as a host computer. A second storage device, as the target device, is able to be shared by multiple first storage devices using the access permission IDs issued by the target device. The target device manages an access permission ID for use in identifying the access permission of other devices for accessing the target device. The target device executes processing to give as access permission to the privileged device that requests the access permission, and the target device judges whether to give access permission for access requests received after this, such as access requests from the first storage devices, according to the access permission ID originally supplied to the privileged device.

  • Patent number: 7127558
Abstract: According to the present invention, it is possible to enhance a performance in accessing a storage system, without performing data migration process between the storages constituting the storage system. A virtualization controller 2 connecting a host computer 1 and a storage 3 constituting the storage system controls a plurality of access paths (path such as port 6-backplane 9-port 6, port 6-backplane 9-storage controller 7-port 6) provided within the virtualization controller. It further performs a control so that an optimum access path is selected for switching, out of the plurality of access paths, based on setting information from a management server 4 by a system administrator and various monitoring results detected by the virtualization controller itself.

  • Patent number: 7124169
Abstract: A copy management switch is placed in a network that connects a storage device with a computer. This copy management switch is connected to the computer, a first storage device, and a second storage device over the network. The copy management switch copies beforehand data stored in the first storage device to the second storage device. On receiving a read request, which is issued from the computer to the first storage device, the copy management switch converts the read request to the first storage device into a read request to the second storage device, and then transmits the converted read request to the second storage device. The second storage device transfers, to the copy management switch, data corresponding to the read request. The copy management switch transfers the data to the computer as data transferred from the first storage device.
