A DVD-RW disc having a substrate formed with grooves, lands, and land pre-pits, on which are laminated a first dielectric layer, a phase-change recording layer, a second dielectric layer, a reflective layer, and an overcoat layer. The disc is rotated at a 3.49-7.0 m/sec linear speed while being irradiated with a laser beam of 600-700 nm wavelength focused by an objective lens of 0.55-0.7 numerical aperture to the phase-change recording layer from the substrate side. The phase-change recording layer is made of a Ge-In-Sb-Te material, and the reflective layer is made of an Ag-Nd-Cu material. The first dielectric layer has a 65-85 nm thickness, the phase-change recording layer has a 10-20 nm thickness, the second dielectric layer has a 13-23 nm thickness, and the reflective layer has a 100-225 nm thickness.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a rotating electric machine including a coil of a wire having thereon an insulating coating comprising a polybenzimidazole. This rotating electric machine is stably maintained for a long time in dielectric strength even under a highly radioactive environment, due to the use of the special insulating coating. With this, the rotating electric machine can be driven stably for a long time. The invention further relates to another rotating electric machine including (a) a rotor having a rotating shaft; (b) a bearing for supporting the rotating shaft; and (c) a grease applied to the bearing. This grease contains (1) a polyphenyl ether having at least three aromatic rings in the molecule and (2) a urea. The rotor of this rotating electric machine is stably supported in the bearing for a long time even under a highly radioactive environment, due to the use of the special grease. Thus, this rotating electric machine can also be rotated stably for a long time.

    Abstract: A speech recognition method makes it possible to improve the accuracy of recognition of input speech and is capable of operating on a real time basis. This is accomplished by generating from the input speech signal a difference signal which indicates whether the speech power of the input speech is increasing or decreasing for each frame. The similarity between the input speech and a standard pattern is then calculated for each frame, and this is then followed by correcting the similarity calculation on the basis of the generated difference signal and a difference signal relating to the standard pattern obtained from storage. The matching of the input speech and the standard pattern is then effected by using the corrected similarity, and the input speech is then recognized from the result of this matching. Thus, a spectrum matching distance weighted by power information of speech can be obtained in real time.

    Abstract: Boards to be dried, such as veneer are placed, one after another, on a pair of fork conveyors disposed opposite to each other. The boards are kept in the form of layers separated and carried downwardly in this fashion, so that the boards can be dried by hot air blown and circulated in the horizontal direction through a space between the two conveyors during their downward voyage. The space between the two fork conveyors is divided into a central passage portion and right and left passage portions, and the flow amount of the hot air at the right and left passage portions is controlled to be somewhat less than the hot air at the central passage portion. In this way, possible dry cracking and wave-shaped shrinkage can be effectively prevented.
