    Abstract: According to one embodiment of the present invention, the light emitting device includes an LED element, a side wall which surrounds the LED element, a phosphor layer which is fixed to the side wall with an adhesive layer therebetween, and is positioned above the LED element, and a metal pad as a heat dissipating member. The side wall includes an insulating base which surrounds the LED element and a metal layer which is formed on a side surface at the LED element side of the base, and is in contact with the metal pad and the adhesive layer. The adhesive layer includes a resin layer that includes a resin containing particles which have higher thermal conductivity than the resin or a layer that includes solder.

    Abstract: An information processing apparatus comprises a plurality of control units, a shared memory, a processing number table and a start-up time table. When a transaction is received, each of the control units determines whether the current time in the shared memory coincides with the most recent start-up time in the processing number. If the current time does not coincide with the most recent start-up time, each of the control units updates the most recent start-up time with current time and if or not, adds 1 to the number of transactions being processed in the processing number table so as to update the number of transactions being processed. After the number of transactions is updated, each of the control units sums up the number of transactions being processed in the processing number table. Each of the control units determines whether the number of transactions is not more than the threshold value in the shared memory.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for driving a motor with a reduced current flowing in the motor, as well as reduced vibrations of the motor at a start-up is provided. The motor driving apparatus has a position detector for detecting a position of a rotor of a brushless DC motor, a DC/AC converter for converting a DC voltage derived from a DC power supply into an AC voltage, and a controller for controlling the DC/AC converter to control the conduction of a stator winding of the motor. For a start-up of the motor, the controller positions the rotor by supplying a current to a first conduction phase of the stator winding, and then once turns off the conduction. After that, the controller controls the DC/AC converter to rotate the rotor by supplying current to a second conduction phase of the stator winding, and to start a position detecting operation after a specified time elapses since the rotor starts rotation.

    Abstract: An outdoor unit of a separate type air conditioner has suction ports and a blow-out port which can be disposed freely on the same side of the unit. Also, an outdoor unit of a one-side suction and exhaust type is excellent in static pressure characteristic, sufficient in air flow rate using only one blower, and is easy to install. Suction ports (8) are disposed at both sides in the front side of an outdoor unit main body (outer case 7), and a blow-out port (6a) is disposed in the center of the front side. A heat exchanger (3), an orifice (5), and one centripetal fan (1) are sequentially disposed behind the blow-out port (6a), thereby forming a draft circuit for sucking air from the suction ports (8) at the outer circumference of blades (1a) of the centripetal fan (1). The air is blown out ahead of the blades (1a) through the orifice (5) and heat exchanger (3). Therefore, since suction space is not required, the outdoor unit can be installed close to a wall.

    Abstract: A scroll compressor has a check valve assembly for selectively opening and closing a discharge port and allowing a fluid to flow only from the discharge port towards a discharge chamber. A stationary end plate mounted in the scroll compressor has a plurality of bypass holes defined therein at locations symmetrical in terms of pressure. The plurality of bypass holes are open to compression chambers closest to the discharge port and communicate with the discharge chamber. The stationary end plate also has at least one bypass valve for selectively opening and closing the bypass holes and allowing the fluid to flow only from the compression chambers towards the discharge chamber through the bypass holes. The bypass holes are serviceable to prevent an excessive compression and are positioned so as not to be closed by an orbiting scroll wrap immediately after the compression chambers closest to the discharge port have communicated with the discharge port.

One of an orbiting end plate of the orbiting scroll and the thrust bearing has an annular groove defined therein in which an annular seal member is received. The orbiting scroll is disposed between the stationary scroll and the frame with an axial gap defined therebetween. First, second, and third back chambers are formed on the opposite side of the compression chambers with respect to the orbiting end plate. The first ends of the first and second elongated plates are rigidly connected to the hermetic shell and the second ends are placed one on top of the other over the discharge port. The second end of the first elongated plate on the discharged port is formed with at least one opening so that the pressurized gas discharged from the discharge port hits partly on the first plate and partly on the second plate through the opening.
