  • Patent number: 4468187
Abstract: A tubular article having a peripheral groove is formed by providing the groove in the wall of a tubular blank made of thermoplastic material such as polyethylene terephthalate by applying simultaneously a pressure against the wall of the blank and axial stretching forces. In the bottom of the groove the material is drawn to yielding and the blank is simultaneously elongated.

  • Patent number: 4467929
Abstract: A container (21), and a method and apparatus for producing the container from a tubular blank of polyethylene terephthalate or similar material, according to which a polyethylene terephthalate blank is stretched at least about 3-fold to produce a preform (20). In an axial section through the preform, the contour length substantially corresponds to the contour length in an axial section through the final container. The preform (20) is heated to a temperature above the glass transition temperature (TG) and is converted to the container (21) in a blow mould (12). In doing so, the contour length of the material is maintained through successive reduction of the axial length of the body (23) which the preform constitutes during the conversion to the container. In order to achieve this, the base portion of the blow mould (11) is moved towards the orifice (22) of the final container.

  • Patent number: 4464106
Abstract: Apparatus for producing a tubular pre-moulding of a thermoplastic material, suitable for subsequent blow-moulding to form a container comprising a mold in which a future mouth portion and a portion of adjacent neck section of a tube are moulded to form a pre-moulding, preferably from two mutually joined blank parts, by an axial stretch operation and a blow-moulding operation, the parts in the transition between the mouth portions being severed by a cutting device in order to form two separate blank parts. A tubular pre-moulding is produced after closing one end of the particular blank part and, if necessary, reworking in order to obtain the requisite closing face at the other end.

  • Patent number: 4427122
Abstract: A container for liquids and other products comprising at least two layers of plastic material formed from a composite parison which, after heating is expanded by internal pressure into the shape of the finished container. The plastic material of the inner layer of the parison contains aluminum powder and provides protection against admission of light and comparable radiation to the material within the container. The aluminum powder also serves to heat the parison before blowing by reflecting applied shortwave radiation into the plastic material of the parison.

  • Patent number: 4426416
Abstract: An article of thermoplastic material adapted for being molded into a container comprising a tubular neck portion including annular protuberances of hollow ring-shaped profile, and a tubular shoulder portion continuing from the neck portion. The material of the wall of the neck portion is substantially monoaxially oriented and the annular protuberances are circumferentially expanded from the wall without axial strain of the monoaxially oriented material of the wall whereby the material in the neck portion is of substantially uniform thickness and monoaxially oriented therethroughout including the annular protuberances.

  • Patent number: 4416927

  • Patent number: 4409176
Abstract: An article (11) of thermoplastic material is moulded from a parison (10) in which certain parts (17,16) of the parison are re-formed while other parts (13,12,20) retain their shape. A difference in pressure is applied to the wall of the parison during the re-forming process. Material in the parison is also moved in the direction of those parts of the parison which are to be re-formed, whereby attenuation of the material may be avoided entirely, if so desired, also in those parts which are to be re-formed. The invention enables the parison for a bottle to be re-formed to an extent which is small by comparison with the thickness of the material, for example the so-called "neck support" ring and the so-called "pilfer proof" ring, starting with a tube of oriented material. In a device for the application of the invention the elements (22,21,25) are in contact with the parts (13,12,20) of the parison.

  • Patent number: 4405546
Abstract: An object is produced from a tubular blank (10,15,17) of thermoplastic material of polyester or polyamide, preferably of polyethylene terephthalate by reducing the thickness of amorphous material in one or several areas of the blank by means of one or several consecutive re-shaping operations. A mechanical shaping device (23,29,71,81) moves a transitional zone (13,14,113) situated between thicker and thinner material along the blank and simultaneously elongates the blank in the moving direction of the transitional zone while reducing the thickness. After the last re-shaping operation the thinner material preferably has an oriented state. During the re-shaping operation the temperature of the material in the transitional zone (13,14,113) is controlled at a level which, immediately before the re-shaping operation, is within or close to the range of the glass transition temperature (TG).

  • Patent number: 4381279
Abstract: A process for the manufacture of articles from a thermoplastic of polyester or polyamide type, preferably of polyethylene terephthalate, the element consisting of an edge part which surrounds a body in an arrangement in which the latter is sunk relative to the edge part. The element is formed from a blank of mainly amorphous material or from a material having a crystallinity of less than 10%. The blank consists, for example, of a flat plate, a blank shell or the like. The body or parts thereof are shaped by stretching the blank until that material flows which is located within the material sections of the blank, which form the edge part in the element, the material stretched up to flowing in the body assuming a crystallinity of between 10% and 25%, while the crystallinity in the material in the edge part and in the unstretched parts retains its original value of less than 10%. At least the body of the element is expanded against warm mould walls until the final shape of the particular article is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4380525
Abstract: The invention relates to a tubular pre-moulding of a thermoplastic, suitable for subsequent blow-moulding shaping to give containers, and to a process and equipment for producing such pre-moulding. In a tube, future mouth portions and portions of adjacent neck sections are moulded to pre-mouldings, preferably from two mutually joined blank parts, by an axial stretch process and a blow-moulding process, the parts in the transition between the mouth portions being severed in order to form two separate blank parts. A tubular pre-moulding is produced after closing one end of the particular blank part and, if necessary, reworking in order to obtain the requisite closing face at the other end.

  • Patent number: 4374878
Abstract: A tubular premoulding of a thermoplastic, suitable for subsequent shaping to produce containers by a rolling process. The material in a part of a tube is axially oriented as a result of reducing the wall thickness by applying an external pressure which causes the material to flow. The oriented material is moulded by a blow-moulding process into future mouth parts and parts of adjacent neck sections, preferably from two blank parts, joined to one another, of pre-mouldings, the blank parts in the transition between the two mouth parts being severed in order to form two separate blank parts, so that, after closing one end and, if necessary, reworking in order to obtain the requisite closing faces at the other end, the two blank parts each form a tubular pre-moulding.

  • Patent number: 4333904
Abstract: A process for forming a mouthpiece on a preform formed from a tubular blank consisting of thermoplastic material, which is intended for the production of a container, e.g. by blow molding, whereby connecting means, such as a thread, which is adapted to a suitable form of closure of the container is formed on the outside of the mouthpiece. The process comprises inserting the blank between an outer mold section with a mold portion for the attachment surface of the connecting means and an inner mold section, whereupon a driven relative axial movement of the two mold sections relative to each other forces the material of the blank, in tightly enclosed manner, radially outwards into the mold portion for the attachment surface, and an axial head cup is provided.
