Abstract: At least one embodiment of the present invention refers to a method, a system, a computer readable medium and/or a computer program product for optimizing a clinical pathway. The clinical pathway includes a sequence of actions. In at least one embodiment, he method aims at finding the best suitable and optimal following action for a respective action. There is provided a set of rules, patient information data and optimization criteria. After having received a symptom or an action there is deduced a set of possible following actions. • Patent number: 7727269
Abstract: A device is for introducing a stent into a hollow organ, in particular into the gastrointestinal tract of the body of a patient. The device includes a magnet system which covers the area of treatment of the patient and generates a 3D gradient field for remote-controlled movement and orientation of an endorobot. The endorobot is provided with a linear magnet and is freely movable in the hollow organ. Further, the stent, which can be uncoupled from the outside, is secured to the endorobot in a folded-down state so that it can be brought to the site of use and can there be opened out so as to bear firmly on the wall of the hollow organ.

  • Patent number: 7704214
Abstract: A volumetric flow of an analyte, including exhaled air, is fed to a gas sensor unit by used of gas flow device, which can include various sensors for the determination of nitrogen oxides. An oxidation catalyst is used when using an NO2 sensor, which converts nitrogen monoxide to nitrogen dioxide and the gas sensor unit measures the content of nitrogen dioxide. The nitrogen monoxide content is calculated from the nitrogen dioxide content. In order to eliminate cross-sensitivity moisture and ethanol are also measured. The device can be applied to the determination of nitrogen monoxide content of exhaled air.

  • Patent number: 7585492
Abstract: A bio-molecular contrast agent (BMCA) is introduced into a biological organism such that the agent binds or reacts with target tissue within that organism. The BMCA is also signal-giving, and signal reactive, capable of being inactivated by delivery of energy thereto. By monitoring the decrease in signal strength of the BMCA, the actual dosage delivered to the target can be determined and monitored. The decrease in BMCA signal strength can also be correlated to the level of destruction of the target, allowing for determination of therapy success.

  • Patent number: 7572284
Abstract: A method is for automated localization of lesions in the gastrointestinal tract using laser light from an endorobot. The method includes recording of surface images of the gastrointestinal tract using the camera of the endorobot. Next, the surface images are transmitted to a computer. The surface images are then analyzed by the computer on the basis of lesion-specific features with regard to lesions to be irradiated. Thereafter, control signals are computed by the computer on the basis of a detected lesion, and the control signals are transmitted to an endorobot steering device and/or to a laser system located in the endorobot. Finally, the computed laser-beam orientation and size of the laser irradiation area are adjusted by the endorobot steering device and/or by the laser system, on the basis of the control signals.

  • Publication number: 20090070137
Abstract: A system and method for optimizing status of a care plan is described, the method including defining a care plan as worksteps associated by a rule-based process. Historical data is collected for a plurality of worksteps for such attributes as diagnosis, clinical outcome and cost. The data may be analyzed by data mining techniques so as to discover the optimum relationships between the patient symptoms, the worksteps and a success criteria. The success criteria may include correct diagnosis, equipment use efficiency, cost, and successful clinical outcome. The rule-based process may be modified to take account of the optimum relationships. A patient presenting with a constellation of symptoms may have the symptoms compared with care plans success ranking to determine an optimum care plan.

  • Publication number: 20090070146
Abstract: A system and method is described for managing the release of information from a personal electronic health record (EHR). A central data warehouse maintains at least a part of the HER along with at least a copy of a patient's permission plan for the release of data to others in the health care system. Requests for information may be made by addressees, each addressee possessing credentials. The system and method compares the credentials of the addressee with the personal permissions plan and releases the information permitted by the permissions plan. Where information is denied by the plan, the patient may be offered the opportunity to modify profiles of the plan so as to permit the release of information. The patient may be provided with background information on the need for release of the data, and legal aspects of the release of the data so as to make an informed choice.

  • Publication number: 20090012811
Abstract: A system and method develop and distribute model descriptions for benchmarked and optimized clinical workflows. Benchmarked clinical workflows may be developed and a corresponding database built. The database may be remotely searchable via a search engine over a communications network, such as the Internet. Remote health institution customers may remotely access and download virtual representations of benchmarked clinical workflows. The benchmarked clinical workflows may be modified or optimized to account for the characteristics and/or restrictions of a remote health institution. The savings associated with the benchmarked or optimized clinical workflows may be automatically derived and quantified with respect to manpower, money, and time. In one aspect, the benchmarked clinical workflows may have associated interactive software applications or include modifications to existing software applications that may operate on a customer's local workstation.

Abstract: In a method and device for wireless energy transmission between a magnetic coil system, having multiple excitation coils located outside of a patient, to a working capsule located in the patient, the working capsule has at least one induction coil, and a positioning device determines the position and orientation of the working capsule relative to the magnetic coil system. Using the position and orientation information, the magnetic coil system generates a first magnetic field that exerts a force on the working capsule at a location of the working capsule in the patient. The magnetic system also uses at least one of the position or the orientation to generate a second magnetic field for energy transmission to the working capsule at the location within the patient.
