    Abstract: Known hydroxyethylated and -propylated starch types for use as colloid osmotic agent in peritoneal dialysis or as volume replacement composition (plasma expander) have the disadvantage that complete degradation by amylase is not possible owing to the more or less extensive substitution by hydroxyethyl or hydroxypropyl groups. As a consequence thereof, residual fragments remain in the body and are eliminated only very slowly or are stored in various organs/tissues, especially with relatively high and/or long-term dosage. These disadvantageous properties can be very substantially avoided according to the invention with a highly branched, unsubstituted or low-substituted starch product, i.e. with a starch which has a significantly higher degree of branching than amylopectin, and has the degree of ?-I,6 branching of glycogen, or exceeds the latter and—if substituted—has a degree of substitution MS of only up to 0.3.

One fuel injection valve has a heater adapter. While only the fuel injection valve with the heater adapter is operated during cold start and the warm-up phase of the internal combustion engine, to a great extent, and the fuel injection valve without a heater is not in operation, a switch from one fuel injection valve to the other takes place at a point in time which is determined on the basis of the value of various operating parameters. The fuel injection arrangement is particularly suitable for use in mixture-compressing, outside-ignition internal combustion engines.

    Abstract: An atomizing sieve of a fuel injection valve having a dish-like concavely cambered form is provided downstream of at least one spray orifice of the fuel injection valve, as seen in the direction of flow of fuel. The atomizing sieve is cast with an outer circumferential region in a protective cap provided at the downstream end of the fuel injection valve. For protection against mechanical effects, protective prongs of the protective cap project further downstream than the lowest region of the atomizing sieve. When the fuel is being injected, a part quantity collects in this lowest region and represents a comparatively static liquid quantity which new fuel then strikes. This arrangement allows an ideal break-up of the fuel into very small droplets. The atomizing sieve also forms a protective shield against icing-up, plugging and settlement of chemical substances within the fuel injection valve.

The fuel injection valve is particularly suitable for use in fuel injection systems of mixture-compressing internal combustion engines with externally supplied ignition.

The ratio of the substitution of C2 to the substitution of C6 of the anhydroglucose units is 8-20 and the substitution degree DS lies in the range from 0.15 to 0.5. A process for the preparation of this hydroxyethyl starch employs 2-chloroethanol as hydroxyethylation agent. The hydroxyethylation is carried out under alkaline conditions at room temperature, the pH value held at a value of about 12 and the temperature held at a value of about 20.degree. C.
