  • Patent number: 8709804
Abstract: The instrumentation and methods described herein are based on imaging and measuring single cell dose response by fluorescent ion imaging that records live cell responses to drug doses. Dose response curves and other pharmacological parameters can be computed by imaging and measuring oscillation changes for each drug dose and each cell. The instrumentation and methods described herein provide a means of measuring statistical variability of cell populations for improved screening and development methods for drugs.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 21, 2005
Date of Patent: April 29, 2014
    Assignee: Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
Inventors: Anat Ben-Shlomo, Shlomo Melmed, Kolja Wawrowsky
  • Publication number: 20080253641
Abstract: The instrumentation and methods described herein are based on imaging and measuring single cell dose response by fluorescent ion imaging that records live cell responses to drug doses with no apparent damage to the cells or toxic side effects. Dose response curves and other pharmacological parameters can be computed by imaging and measuring oscillation changes for each dose and each cell. Large variability of cellular responses under the same experimental conditions indicates that pharmacological benchmarks are determined by statistical distribution of cells and cellular physiology. The instrumentation and methods described herein provide a means of measuring statistical variability of cell populations for improved screening and development methods for drugs.

  • Patent number: 6687035
Abstract: The present invention concerns a method and an apparatus for ROI-scan with high temporal resolution of a specimen (11). At least one light source (1, 2) generates an illumination light beam (4) to be scanned by a scanning device (9) across the specimen (11). The scan pattern (23) and at least one region of interest defines a first plurality of first scan lines (21) and a second plurality of second scan lines (22). Means for adjusting illumination conditions of the at least one light source are positioned in the illumination beam path prior to the scan device (9). Control means connected to the scan device (9) and the means for adjusting the illumination conditions are responsive to the position of the light beam on the specimen.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 7, 2001
Date of Patent: February 3, 2004
    Assignee: Leica Microsystems Heildelberg GmbH
    Inventors: Werner Knebel, Kolja Wawrowsky
