  • Patent number: 11308137
Abstract: As provided herein, a list of locales of interest in a location may be sorted into one or more categories. A user performing a search for a locale of interest (e.g., a restaurant) may be identified. A local score may be assigned to the locale of interest based upon a number of local users (e.g., users residing in the location) that perform the search. A second user may be determined to be near the locale of interest. A category of interest may be determined for the second user (e.g., an interest in local non-tourist restaurants). Responsive to the category of interest corresponding to the category and the local score of the locale of interest exceeding an interest threshold, the second user may be provided with a recommendation to go to the locale of interest. The locale of interest may be a local favorite restaurant rather than a tourist trap.

  • Publication number: 20150081653
Abstract: Techniques are described herein for assisting a user of a portable computing device with a touch screen display in formulating a search engine search query. The techniques may assist the user in a more efficient funnel querying approach when compared to conventional funnel querying approaches. In particular, with the techniques, the user can add one or more additional keywords to an initial search query without having to enter the individual letters of the additional keywords. As a result, the techniques enable the user to find relevant search results with less tedium and frustration compared to conventional funnel querying approaches, thereby increasing user satisfaction with the search engine.

  • Publication number: 20140250116
Abstract: A system and method for generating search results includes: receiving a search query with a search term; parsing the search term; determining that at least a portion of the parsed search term is an ambiguous, time-sensitive query; retrieving an intended search term according to a current time of day from a data store when it is determined that at least a portion of the parsed search term is an ambiguous, time-sensitive query; and preparing a search results page such that search results more closely matching the derived intended search term are placed in a most prominent position on the search results page.
