Patent number: 6070279Abstract: A kit for retrofitting a plumbed eyewash station is provided. The plumbed eyewash station includes a basin and an outlet pipe mounted within the basin. Prior to retrofitting the plumbed station, the outlet pipe is used to dispense water delivered thereto by a facility's plumbing system. The retrofitting kit includes a nozzle support and a self-contained eyewash fluid delivery system. The fluid delivery system includes a portable container and a nozzle in fluid communication with the container. The portable container contains eyewash fluid. To retrofit the plumbed station, the nozzle support is mounted to the outlet pipe; the portable container is placed on a support surface above the nozzle support; and the nozzle is mounted to the nozzle support. The kit preferably includes an activation door and an actuation strap. The activation door is rotatably mounted to the nozzle support, and the actuation strap extends from the nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1999Date of Patent: June 6, 2000Assignee: Fendall CompanyInventor: Kurt H. Patent number: 5926928Abstract: A side release buckle having a female member with a receptacle for receiving a tongue portion of a male member. One or more openings through the male member are alignable at least partially with corresponding openings through the female member when the tongue portion of the male member is disposed in the receptacle of the female member, whereby the at least partially aligned openings of the male and female members form corresponding apertures through the side release buckle. The openings may include one or more rib members for strength. The side release buckles have, among other advantages, reduced weight without compromising strength, and are suitable for applications where it is desirable to vent the buckle, or permit underlying fabric or structure to be at least partially visible therethrough, or to accept a locking member to prevent or deter casual release of the male and female members.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1998Date of Patent: July 27, 1999Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventor: Kurt H. Lundstedt

Patent number: 5894639Abstract: A cord lock apparatus includes an open-ended cage and a slide slidably received at least partially in the cage and movable relative to the cage between a cord locking position and an intermediate position. The slide includes travel limiting structure to engage the cage at the intermediate position, a slide body, and a tension spring mechanism to allow the slide body to be displaced to a cord releasing position while urging the slide body toward the cord locking position.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1998Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: Robert O. BodenInventors: Robert O. Boden, Kurt H. Lundstedt

Patent number: 5651166Abstract: A method and apparatus for webbing retention and adjustment that includes a body member having opposing side members interconnected by first and second transverse members. A resilient projecting member extends upwardly from a lower portion of the body member and includes a front side portion biased toward the second transverse member and engageable with a portion of the webbing between the second transverse member and the resilient projecting member so as to increase the friction on the webbing and prevent slippage of the webbing in at least one direction with little or no tension on the webbing. The resilient projecting member is flexible away from the second transverse member to at least partially disengage the webbing and ease adjustment of the webbing by reducing the friction on the webbing and reducing the webbing release angle required to adjust the webbing.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 1995Date of Patent: July 29, 1997Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventor: Kurt H. Lundstedt

Patent number: 5197166Abstract: A cord closure for securely retaining flexible cord, drawstrings, and the like in a selected position includes a plunger member, a compression spring, a retaining ring, and a body housing. There is provided means for initially holding the plunger sub-assembly in a pre-assembled position with the spring being compressed so that the holes of the plunger member and body housing can be readily aligned for insertion of a cord. Once the cord is threaded through the aligned holes, the plunger member is depressed downwardly and released to allow the spring to expand and urge the plunger member to move up axially, thereby locking the cord between the plunger member and the body housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 6, 1992Date of Patent: March 30, 1993Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Terrence P. Meier, Kurt H. Lundstedt

Patent number: 5195218Abstract: A cord lock device for binding to a cord including a substantially flexible cord lock member having a predetermined length, width and thickness and first and second longitudinal ends and an aperture extending through the cord lock member proximate the first end of the cord lock member, the aperture having a predetermined configuration selected with respect to the cord lock member, the position of the aperture with respect to the first end of the cord lock member, the flexibility of the cord lock member and the particular dimensions and material of the cord so that after threading of a portion of the cord through the aperture, the aperture, the cord lock member and the cord cooperate to provide an engagement force between the cord lock member and the cord sufficient to restrict movement of the cord through the aperture.Type: GrantFiled: December 9, 1991Date of Patent: March 23, 1993Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Mark Joseph, Kurt H. Lundstedt

Patent number: 5170539Abstract: A buckle having a sleeve portion including a receiving channel, a web connector member positioned within the channel for cooperation with the sleeve, and a spring member integrally formed with the web connector member for providing a spring bias to the web connector member with respect to the sleeve so that a web can be affixed to the buckle for adjustable cooperation with the web connector member, the sleeve and the spring member with the web connector member being accessible from the exterior of the buckle for manipulation by a user against the force of the spring member so as to adjust or remove the web.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1991Date of Patent: December 15, 1992Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Kurt H. Lundstedt, Steven C. Keller

Patent number: 5020189Abstract: A door closure mechanism for use upon a door of a cabinet includes a housing formed from two co-mating first and second members, a drive cam rotatably mounted within the housing, a cam follower mounted within the housing for reciprocating movement relative to the drive cam, and a coil spring mounted within the housing for resiliently biasing the cam follower in a reciprocal manner against the drive cam. The drive cam is formed with cam surfaces which radially engage the cam follower so as to control the relative reciprocal movement of the cam follower with respect to the drive cam. As a safety feature, ther is provided a set of spring pre-load clips which engage the ends of the coil spring so as to prevent full decompression of the coil spring in the event of a housing failure.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1990Date of Patent: June 4, 1991Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Donald C. Grome, Kurt H. Lundstedt, William Olson
