  • Patent number: 4754720
Abstract: In the process for manufacture of seat covers with honeycomb cells, a plain and folded segment of a cover material is introduced by means of a fold forming traveler into a first of several grooves of a foam plastic panel and after the traveler is retracted, the fold of cover material is sewn to the foam panel. Then, a new segment of the cover material is folded back over the seam by the traveler in the direction of the adjacent second groove and, after forming a fold, is sewn in this groove. In the seat covers produced by this process, the seams are fully concealed by the cover material.

  • Patent number: 4471706
Abstract: A device for feeding a strip of material into a sewing machine so that it can be sewed onto a cut fabric which is fed over a base plate includes a stop which is positionable in the feed path of the strip of material and which control the operation of the sewing machine so that the strip will not be fed unless it is aligned with the associated workpiece and guided past a reciprocating needle.

  • Patent number: 4467739
Abstract: A sewing machine for making edge-parallel shaping seams in multiple layer articles such as shirt collars comprises a reciprocating needle for sewing through the multiple layers of a workpiece such as a collar which has a plurality of edges disposed at angles to each other. The construction includes a guide fence having a guide edge extending alongside the needle. The material is guided against the guide edge. A feeder engages the workpiece from below a presser foot which is biased against the needle in a working position. The presser foot has an upwardly extending infeed end and a holddown member in the form of a strip element. It is adjustably supported above the workpiece and includes a front edge which is engaged downwardly on the workpiece and extends into the infeed end of the presser foot.

  • Patent number: 4284020
Abstract: A thread monitor particularly for a sewing machine having a needle, the monitor comprising a control device operable for stopping the operation of the machine, a thread feeler engageable with the thread supplied to the needle, and a bracket mounting the feeler for movement between a retracted position with respect to the control device and an operative position for actuating the control device for stopping the operation of the machine. The feeler is biased toward its operative position, the bias being greater than the frictional force present between the feeler and its mounting as the machine vibrates during the operation thereof but less than the frictional force present between the feeler and its mounting when the machine is not in operation, so that, upon thread breakage when the machine is in operation, the feeler will move to its operative position for stopping the operation of the machine and, when the machine is not in operation, the feeler remains in retracted position.

  • Patent number: 4226198
Abstract: A device for use with a motor driven sewing machine having a reciprocating needle which in moving from an upper position to a down position penetrates a workpiece which is fed over a support past and in contact with a guide edge disposed alongside the needle in order to form a plurality of different seam lengths at diverse angles comprises a stacking device adjacent the support which includes a mechanism for feeding the workpieces into a stack. A turning device is associated with the sewing machine and is disposed alongside the support and includes a member which moves through a path to engage the workpiece and turn it about at the axis of the needle when the needle is down so as to position it in respect to the guide edge for the sewing of the next seam length.
