  • Patent number: 5348247
Abstract: A braking apparatus for a double bearing type fishing reel, including a braking force adjusting lever turnably arranged on one of side plates for adjusting a braking force applied to a spool rotatably supported between both the side plates, the braking apparatus further including: an arc-shaped defining member turnably arranged on the one side plate, the defining member having a first engaging portion adapted to be engaged with the braking force adjusting lever for regulating the turnable movement of the braking force adjusting lever relative to the one side plate and defining a maximum braking force applied to the spool. The arc-shaped defining member is adjustingly turned and thereafter fixed onto the one side plate by utilizing a fixing screw. A stepless normal working range with a maximum braking force position suitable for fishing conditions can be provided for the turnable movement of the braking force adjusting lever.

  • Patent number: 5236147
Abstract: A fishing reel is provided with a line length measuring device to determine the unwound or wound amount of the fishing line based on the number of spool rotations. It is provided with a micro computer-implemented function to detect when the fishing line wound onto the spool reaches a prescribed winding amount. The line length is measured by micro computer execution of a formula for line length calculation determined by the total number of spool rotations when the fishing line is wound to a prescribed winding diameter level of the spool, according to the actual number of spool rotations when the line is unwound or wound, as counted with an incremental/decremental counter. Further, when the fishing line reaches the prescribed winding amount, the prescribed winding amount detector so informs.

  • Patent number: 5066842
Abstract: A key top, of the type utilized in keyboards, is disclosed, which minimizes the lateral stress encountered by the central engaging protrusion with respect to the underlying switch. Two T-shaped reinforcing rib structures are provided on bottom surface of the top plate of the key top, with the rib structures spaced apart from the engaging protrusion, thereby providing a gap between the reinforcing ribs and the engaging protrusion, and thus dispersing lateral stress on the engaging protrusion through increased flexure of the engaging protrusion. In addition, the base of the engaging protrusion is thickened to structurally resist lateral stress.

  • Patent number: 4881697
Abstract: A spinning reel, which is capable of applying a starting force of the direction of paying out a fishing line to a spool at the time of casting, includes a spool forcibly-rotating unit built in a reel body. This spool forcibly-rotating unit applies a turning torque to the spool in the direction of forcibly paying out the line at the beginning of casting. Accordingly, the inertia for starting the spool when a sinker flies off in response to casting is prevented from acting on the sinker, so that the fishing line can be easily released even with a light sinker, the flying distance of the sinker can be increased, casting can be achieved without difficulty, and a spinning rod can be easily controlled at the time of casting.

  • Patent number: 4858845
Abstract: The handle folding apparatus for fishing reels according to this invention allows the folding of the handle arm and also the secure coupling of the handle arm to the handle shaft of the spinning reel. A handle stopper is slidably installed between the bottom of the fork of the handle seat and the front end of the handle arm. The handle stopper has an engagement projection which is in contact with the engagement surface formed at the end of the handle arm, in order to produce a wedge effect to securely hold the handle arm without a play when in use or easily allow the handle arm to be folded when not in use. The handle stopper, which is slidably installed but not mounted with a pin as in the conventional apparatus, reliably eliminates plays between the handle arm and the handle shaft of the spinning reel and at the same time makes the handle folding mechanism comact and lightweight.

  • Patent number: 4848695
Abstract: A spinning reel for fishing in which a coil spring is used to urge the bail toward a position for winding the fishing line and a position for releasing the fishing line. The base portion of the spring is deflected toward one side of base portion of a bail arm-mounting arm to strongly urge the bail toward the position for releasing the fishing line but to weakly urge the bail toward the position for winding the fishing line. Therefore, the bail is not erroneously operated by the inertial force of when the fishing line is being casted and the fishing line is not cut when it is being released.

  • Patent number: 4840327
Abstract: A drag-force measuring apparatus for fishing reels wherein a handle shaft and a spool shaft are in non-axially spaced apart relationship; there being motion transmitting a components interconnecting the handle and spool shafts. A drag device is provided for imparting a drag-force to the fishing line wound on the spool carried on the spool shaft. A handle is mounted on the handle shaft for relative rotatable relationship with respect thereto. A drag-force measuring mechanism is fixed on the handle shaft and including a portion outwardly of the handle. A spring interconnects the drag-force measuring mechanism and the handle for limited relative rotation of the handle with respect to the handle shaft.

  • Patent number: 4834311
Abstract: A fishline slip-off prevention device for a spinning reel according to the pressent invention is to prevent a fishline from entering to the rotor side. The fishline slip-off prevention device is constructed such that a fishline ingress inhibitor held in abutment against a flanged portion of a spool is swingably supported to a bail support arm and also urged toward the spool by an urging mechanism, so the fishline ingress inhibitor positively abuts against the flanged portion of the spool and hence the fishline can positively be prevented from entering the rotor side while the rotor is in rest or being rotated at low speeds during which time the fishline more likely tends to slip off the spool.
