  • Patent number: 6671950
Abstract: A process for fabricating a multi-layer circuit assembly is provided comprising the following steps: (a) providing a perforate electrically conductive core having a via density of 500 to 10,000 holes/square inch (75 to 1550 holes/square centimeter); (b) applying a dielectric coating onto all exposed surfaces of the electrically conductive core to form a conformal coating on all exposed surfaces of the electrically conductive core; (c) ablating the surface of the dielectric coating in a predetermined pattern to expose sections of the electrically conductive core; (d) applying a layer of metal to all surfaces to form metallized vias through the electrically conductive core; and (e) applying a resinous photosensitive layer to the metal layer. Additional processing steps such as circuitization may be included.

  • Patent number: 5550006
Abstract: Composition and methods for providing a phosphate conversion coating on a metal surface, particularly a copper surface, characterized in that the phosphating composition includes at least one composition-soluble compound containing vanadium, niobium, tungsten or tantalum. The phosphate conversion coatings so produced are thicker, more durable and more uniform than those produced by known phosphating compositions. The compositions and processes are especially useful for providing a passivating/uniformizing coating layer on copper surfaces to which organic resin is thereafter deposited to serve as a resist in printed circuit fabrication sequences, particularly when the organic resin is an electrophoretically deposited organic resin.

  • Patent number: 4134816
Abstract: Aqueous coating compositions comprising a blocked organic polyisocyanate and a resin containing active hydrogen atoms and quaternary ammonium groups are disclosed. The resin is prepared by the reaction of a polyepoxide with an amine-acid salt. These compositions deposit on the cathode to provide coatings having excellent properties.

  • Patent number: 4035275
Abstract: It has been found that quaternary onium (e.g., ammonium, sulfonium, and phosphonium) salt group-containing epoxy resins are particularly useful as grinding media in preparing stable pigment disperions useful in water-dispersible coating systems, for example, electrodepositable compositions. The resins are prepared by reacting a material selected from the group consisting of amine salts, phosphine-acid mixtures, and sulfide-acid mixtures with a 1,2-epoxy group containing material wherein a ratio of at least about 0.4 equivalents of quaternary onium groups are produced per equivalent of epoxy group initially present. Preferably, the system contains at least a small amount of polyoxyalkylene glycol.

The resins are prepared by reacting a material selected from the group consisting of amine salts, phosphine-acid mixtures, and sulfide-acid mixtures with a 1,2-epoxy group containing material wherein a ratio of at least about 0.4 eqivalents of quaternary onium groups are produced per equivalent of epoxy group initially present. Preferably, the system contains at least a small amount of polyoxyalkylene glycol.
