    Abstract: The present invention provides a method for preventing and treating thrombosis in an individual comprising administering a compound effective to inhibit the agglutination and aggregation of blood platelets to an individual in need of said treatment. In a preferred embodiment, the compound is selected from the group consisting of aurin tricarboxylic acid, triphenyl methyl dyes, substituted naphthalene sulfonic acid moieties, the analogs and agonists of these compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof.
