  • Publication number: 20190314896
Abstract: Process for producing a titanium alloy material, such as a titanium aluminum alloy, are provided. The process includes reduction of TiCl4), which includes a titanium ion (Ti4+), through intermediate ionic states (e.g., Ti3+) to Ti2+, which may then undergo a disproportionation reaction to form the titanium aluminum alloy.
    Type: Application
    Filed: October 20, 2017
    Publication date: October 17, 2019
Inventors: Evan H. Copland, Albert Santo Stella, Eric Allen Ott, Andrew Philip Woodfield, Leon Hugh Prentice

  • Patent number: 9822427
Abstract: A process for the production of a metal which comprises: carbothermal reduction of the corresponding metal oxide to produce a mixed gas stream comprising the metal and carbon monoxide; maintaining the mixed gas stream at a suitably elevated temperature to prevent reformation of the metal oxide; ejecting the mixed gas stream through a convergent-divergent nozzle in order to cool the mixed gas stream instantaneously to a temperature at which reformation of the metal oxide cannot take place; and separating and collecting the metal, wherein the nozzle is heated by means other than gas flow through the nozzle so that temperature of surfaces of the nozzle in contact with the mixed gas stream are maintained at a temperature sufficient to prevent deposition on the said surfaces of products from the gas stream.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 18, 2015
Date of Patent: November 21, 2017
Assignee: COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANISATION
Inventors: Steven Tassios, Timothy Raymond Douglas Barton, Michael Wilson Nagle, Keri Koulla Constanti-Carey, Leon Hugh Prentice

  • Publication number: 20110179794
Abstract: A transition duct (94) for routing a gas flow from a combustor to the first stage of a turbine section in a combustion turbine engine is disclosed. The transition duct (94) may have an internal passage (102) extending between an inlet (98) to an outlet (100). An axis (130) of the transition duct body (96) may be generally linear such that gases expelled from the transition duct body (96) flow in a proper direction into the downstream turbine blades.
