Patent number: 9415365Abstract: A method of coating a honeycomb monolith substrate comprising a plurality of channels with a liquid comprising a catalyst component comprises the steps of: (i) holding a honeycomb monolith substrate substantially vertically; (ii) introducing a pre-determined volume of the liquid into the substrate via open ends of the channels at a lower end of the substrate; (iii) sealingly retaining the introduced liquid within the substrate; (iv) inverting the substrate containing the retained liquid; and (v) applying a vacuum to open ends of the channels of the substrate at the inverted, lower end of the substrate to draw the liquid along the channels of the substrate.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2014Date of Patent: August 16, 2016Assignee: Johnson Matthey Public Limited CompanyInventors: Guy Richard Chandler, Keith Anthony Flanagan, Paul Richard Phillips, Paul Schofield, Michael Leonard William Spencer, Hedley Michael Strutt

Publication number: 20160164531Abstract: A method for correcting long-term phase drift of a crystal oscillator in a numerically-controlled oscillator is described. The method includes determining the phase error in an oscillator signal in comparison with an external time base; delta-sigma modulating the phase error to generate a delta-sigma error bitstream; conditionally adding or subtracting an error correction step size from a phase increment value in each clock cycle based on the delta-sigma error bitstream, to create a modulated phase increment value; and adding the modulated phase increment value to a phase accumulator to generate an error-corrected output digital signal. The delta-sigma-based error correction method avoids the use of multipliers. The same delta-sigma error signal can be used in multiple numerically-controlled oscillators configured to different output frequency if driven by the same reference oscillator.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 28, 2013Publication date: June 9, 2016Applicant: Smart Energy Instrumetns Inc.Inventors: Donald Jeffrey DIONNE, Brian Leonard William HOWSE, Jennifer Marie McCANN

Publication number: 20160047638Abstract: Various embodiments of projectiles and materials based impact reactive projectiles are described. In one embodiment, a projectile includes a projectile core and a tip. The projectile core may include a core base and a central recess that extends from a leading circumferential rim of the projectile core to the core base. The projectile core may further include projectile fingers each separated by a kerf, extending longitudinally from the core base to the leading circumferential rim, and extending radially apart between an outer periphery of the central recess to an outer periphery surface of the core. Depending at least in part upon the type of materials which the projectile is formed from, upon impact, the projectile fingers and core base of the projectile may fracture apart without a slug remaining. Alternatively, the projectile fingers may bloom out, expanding the cross sectional area of the projectile, and slowing the projectile.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 29, 2015Publication date: February 18, 2016Inventors: David Martin Golloher, Leonard William Terkeurst

Publication number: 20150316587Abstract: Described is a method and devices to determine root-mean-square of a delta- sigma modulated signal. The method includes filtering the delta-sigma modulated signal to produce a multi-bit filtered signal, delaying a copy of the delta-sigma modulated signal by a fixed number of samples to align with the filtered input, setting a sign of each multi-bit value of the multi-bit filtered signal based upon a corresponding sample value of the delayed copy of the delta-sigma modulated signal, to generate a hybrid signal, summing the hybrid signal to produce a summed signal, and determining the average of the summed signal and the square root of the average to produce a root-mean-square value.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 2, 2013Publication date: November 5, 2015Applicant: SMART ENERGY INSTRUMENTS INC.Inventors: Donald Jeffrey DIONNE, Jennifer Marie McCANN, Brian Leonard William HOWSE

Patent number: 9178456Abstract: A power transmission system may include a plurality of renewable-energy devices such as wind turbines or subsea turbines. The devices are connected together in parallel to a subsea cable that carries an ac transmission voltage. Each device includes a turbine assembly that is rotated by wind or water current flows, and a variable speed ac induction generator. A power converter is connected to the subsea cable and is used to interface the generators to a supply network or power grid. The power transmission system is operated such that an indicated operating speed of one or more of the devices is used to control the power converter (e.g. the PWM strategy that is used to open and close the power semiconductor devices) to achieve desired stator electrical quantities at each generator.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2011Date of Patent: November 3, 2015Assignee: GE ENERGY POWER CONVERSION TECHNOLOGY, LTD.Inventors: Christopher Alan Smith, Matthew James Moreman, Leonard William Burt, Matthew James Cunningham

Patent number: 8910795Abstract: A magnetic separator comprising a vibratory conveyor for vibratorily flowing non-ferrous articles and articles containing ferrous material within the magnetic field of a transverse extending magnet to magnetically capture the articles containing the ferrous material while allowing the non-ferrous articles to flow therepast. The magnet is periodically retractable to remove ferrous articles magnetically adhered thereto. The use of a set of transverse extending magnets enables a continuous on-the-go separation of articles containing ferrous material from non-ferrous articles without having to shut down the vibratory conveyor.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2013Date of Patent: December 16, 2014Assignee: Dynamic Air Inc.Inventors: James Steele, Leonard Williams
