    Abstract: Methods and apparatus for correcting quantization errors in signal reception based on estimated network loading including solutions for preserving cellular network performance in low noise, high interference environments. In one embodiment, a data channel is amplified with respect to other signals based on network load during periods of relatively low network utilization. Dynamic modification of the data channel's power level is configured to overcome quantization errors, rather than the true noise floor (which is insignificant in low noise environments). Such solutions provide both the fidelity necessary to enable high degrees of unwanted signaling rejection, while still preserving data channel quality.

    Abstract: The present embodiments disclose a device including a module for sampling, separating and enriching a detected object, an exhaled breath condensates (EBCs) detection module and a combined volatile organic compounds (VOCs) detection module. The sampling module is connected with the EBCs detection module via a syringe pump for sample injection and is connected with the combined VOCs detection module by a capillary separation column. EBCs and VOCs in human exhaled breath are simultaneously sampled, separated and condensed; the heavy metal ions, cell factors, etc. in the collected EBCs are detected with a light addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS); the condensed VOCs can be quantitatively detected by the combined VOCs detection module with a high sensitivity; and a heating rod and a platinum resistor can be conveniently replaced because a separated outlet heating piece is designed in the combined VOCs detection module.

    Abstract: A generator for harvesting energy from flowing water is disclosed. The generator harvests electrostatic energy as well as mechanical kinetic energy from the flowing water. In one aspect, the generator includes a plurality of blades arranged in a radially outward fashion. Each blade includes an electrode and a surface layer for receiving flowing water carrying triboelectric charges. The flowing water affects a flow of electrons between the electrode and ground. In another aspect, the generator includes a first member with a first electrode, and a second member coupled to the first member about an axis. The second member includes a second electrode, and a surface layer between the first electrode and the second electrode. The second member is rotatable with respect to the axis to change triboelectric charges on the electrodes, and to affect a flow of electrons between the electrodes.

    Abstract: The present invention provides nonionic surfactants, compositions incorporating these surfactants, and related methods of making and using such surfactants and compositions. The nonionic surfactants demonstrate excellent equilibrium and dynamic surface tension properties as well as excellent wetting properties. Further, representative embodiments of the surfactants have shown low foaming characteristics, indicating that the surfactants would be suitable in applications where resistance to foaming is desired. The surfactants can be used singly or in combination with other nonionic and/or ionic surfactants as desired. As an over view, the nonionic surfactants of the present invention have a structure in which the surfactant backbone includes one or more amine moieties. At least one, preferably two or more branched, cyclic, fused cyclic, and/or spyro hydrophobic moieties are pendant from at least one of the amine moieties.

    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a base structure of lens-focusing mechanism first prepares a conductive member having at least two conductive parts, interconnection part, contacts and two conductive pins. The conductive parts have proximity ends separated and staggered to each other. An insulating base is formed by injection molding and encapsulates the conductive member wherein the conductive pins, the interconnection part and the contacts are exposed out of the insulating base. The interconnection part is cut and then a spring member is mounted to the insulating base and electrically connected to the conductive pins through the contacts. The present invention can solve the problem of difficulty in assembling conductive pins and connecting the spring member for the insulating base. The conductive member is arranged within the insulating base such that plastic material can be saved, the flatness, the stability and the anti-damage ability of base can be enhanced.
