  • Patent number: 8192660
Abstract: Disclosed is a cold-water soluble starch and a process for preparing same. Generally, the process comprises providing a hydroxyalkyl starch and applying a shearing force to the starch in an extruder in the presence of moisture, the force and the moisture each being sufficient to gelatinize at least substantially all of the granules of the starch to thereby form a sheared starch. The starch is heated to its gelatinization temperature after the starch has passed partially through the barrel of the extruder, with the moisture being maintained at a level sufficiently high to allow gelatinization but sufficiency low to protect the starch from becoming too sticky to extrude. The extruded starch product thus formed may be used in connection with a number of film-forming, coating, and other applications.

  • Publication number: 20120108451
Abstract: The invention provides nucleic acid hybridization methods for detecting target nucleic acid sequences wherein complexes comprising nanoparticles non-covalently associated with single-stranded tartlet nucleic acid molecules are incubated with immobilized probe nucleic acid molecules. Because the nanoparticles function as competitors in the hybridization reaction between the target nucleic acid molecules and the probe nucleic acid molecules. The methods provide a high degree of discrimination between a perfectly matched target sequence and a sequence having at least a single-base-pair mismatch, even when the hybridization reaction is performed at room temperature. The invention also provides microarray methods and apparatus which incorporate the nanoparticle-assisted hybridization methods.

  • Patent number: 8165931
Abstract: A computer implemented method, a tangible computer usable medium, and a data processing system allocate materials to an automated purchase assembly conversion process to support a dynamic configure-to-order production operation. A configure-to-order backlog order is analyzed to determine demand for a particular purchase assembly. If the demand for the particular purchase assembly can be filled with an on-hand purchase assembly in inventory, the on-hand purchase assembly in inventory is allocated to fill the demand. If the demand for the particular purchase assembly can not be filled with an on-hand purchase assembly in inventory, a determination is made as to whether the demand for the particular purchase assembly can be filled by reallocating other similar on-hand purchase assembly in inventory and on-hand individual parts.
