  • Patent number: 7982075
Abstract: A process has been developed for producing diesel boiling range fuel from renewable feedstocks such as plant and animal fats and oils. The process involves treating a renewable feedstock by hydrogenating and deoxygenating i.e. decarboxylating, decarbonylating, and hydrodeoxygenating to provide a hydrocarbon fraction useful as a diesel boiling range fuel. A sulfur containing component is added to drive the conversion preferentially through carbonylation and carbonylation with reduced hydrodeoxygenation. If desired, the hydrocarbon fraction can be isomerized to improve cold flow properties.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 18, 2008

    Assignees: UOP LLC, ENI S.p.A.
Inventors: Terry L. Marker, Peter Kokayeff, Suheil F. Abdo, Franco Baldiraghi, Luigina M. F. Sabatino
  • Publication number: 20090321311
Abstract: A process has been developed for producing diesel fuel from renewable feedstocks such as plant oils, animal oils and greases. The process involves treating a renewable feedstock by hydrogenating and deoxygenating to provide a diesel boiling range fuel hydrocarbon product. If desired, the hydrocarbon product can be isomerized to improve cold flow properties. A portion of the hydrocarbon product is recycled to the treatment zone to increase the hydrogen solubility of the reaction mixture. The renewable feedstock comprises from about 1 to about 20 wt. ppm phosphorus measured as elemental phosphorus.
