  • Publication number: 20060238417
Abstract: A portable electronic device, e.g., a mobile communications terminal, PDA or other handheld device, includes a GPS receiver and is configured to conduct non-GPS activities. The GPS receiver is transitioned out of a sleep state to attempt to acquire at least one GPS satellite signal responsive to a selected non-GPS activity of the device. For example, the GPS receiver may be transitioned out of the sleep state to attempt to acquire at least one GPS satellite signal responsive to a first non-GPS activity, and may be left in the sleep state notwithstanding occurrence of a second non-GPS activity. The first non-GPS activity may, for example, be associated with positioning of the device in a more conducive to reception of GPS satellite signals than the second non-GPS activity. For example, the first non-GPS activity may comprise an internet browsing activity, a video presentation activity, a gaming activity and/or a non-hands-free telephony activity.

  • Publication number: 20060214876
Abstract: An apparatus for driving a plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) includes a general purpose input/output (GPIO) for outputting a control signal. The apparatus further includes a plurality of LED packages via a shared control bus to the GPIO. This Abstract is provided to comply with rules requiring an Abstract that allows a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain subject matter of the technical disclosure. This Abstract is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims.

  • Publication number: 20060214845
Abstract: GPS accessories for host devices include a GPS Radio Frequency (RF) receiver that receives GPS signals over a GPS radio frequency and obtains raw GPS data from the GPS signals. A wireless RF transmitter wirelessly transmits the raw GPS data to a host device over a non-GPS radio frequency. The wireless RF transmitter may include an ad hoc short range wireless network transmitter, such as a Bluetooth transmitter.

  • Patent number: 7069145
Abstract: Mobile terminals, methods, and program products for generating a magnetic heading. A geographic position of the mobile terminal is determined. A magnetic field at the mobile terminal is sensed. A magnetic inclination and/or a magnetic declination of the magnetic field is determined based on the determined geographic position. A magnetic heading is determined for the mobile terminal based on the sensed magnetic field and based on the determined magnetic inclination and/or magnetic declination.

  • Publication number: 20050130678
Abstract: A method of retrieving positional data for one or more locations from an information service includes generating, in a mobile station, a request message including explicit data related to the location(s); transmitting the request message to the information service, providing the positional data, in the information service, based on the explicit data in the request message, and transmitting the positional data from the information service to the mobile station. Generating the request message in the mobile station includes selecting a data entity already present in the mobile station for inclusion in the request message, which data entity includes the explicit data.

  • Publication number: 20050124390
Abstract: A message is transmitted from a networked GPS time server to a mobile station, the message includes GPS referenced time information indicating an elapsed GPS referenced time interval at the networked GPS time server between receiving a request for GPS time assistance at the networked GPS time server and transmitting the message to the mobile station.

  • Patent number: 6885337
Abstract: The position of a mobile terminal is determined including receiving location determination signals from satellite positioning system transmitters. Location assistance information is received from a wide area wireless communication network in an associated format defined by a protocol of the network. Location assistance information is received from a local wireless transmitter in the associated format. The local wireless transmitter and the wide area wireless communication network are uncoordinated and have different associated wireless transmission protocols. The position of the mobile terminal is determined based on the received signals from the satellite positioning system transmitters and location assistance information received from either the wide area wireless communication network or the local wireless transmitter. The source of the location assistance information may be selected based on availability and may be an ad hoc protocol wireless transmitter, such as a Bluetooth transmitter.

  • Publication number: 20050085187
Abstract: A wireless user note service apparatus includes a short range wireless transceiver, such as a Bluetooth transceiver, and a processor operatively coupled to the short-range wireless transceiver and configured to provide an autonomous wireless user note server that wirelessly receives, locally stores and wirelessly transmits user notes to and from users of the short-range wireless transceiver. The autonomous wireless user note server may be operative to wirelessly receive, locally store and wirelessly transmit user notes without storing geographical location data in association with the user notes. The autonomous wireless user note server may also be configured to wireless receive, locally store and wirelessly transmit user notes without communicating the user notes to a central wireless user note repository that stores notes associated with multiple locations.
