Patent number: 11056264Abstract: A rupture resistant system, including a tank configured to increase an inner volume of the tank under increased pressure conditions, wherein the tank, a sidewall extending about the inner volume of the tank, and wherein the sidewall includes an interior surface and an exterior surface, a bottom wall coupled to the sidewall, and a tank cover coupled to the sidewall opposite the bottom wall, wherein the tank cover includes a first plate coupled to a second plate, wherein the second plate extends from the first plate, and the first plate couples to a second end of the sidewall with a joint without overlapping the interior and exterior surfaces of the sidewall. The system also includes a radiator coupled to the tank, the radiator comprising a first panel and a second panel positioned at a distance from the first panel, the first panel and second panel being configured to increase the distance of the inner volume of the radiator.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2017Date of Patent: July 6, 2021Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Florian Peter Pintgen, Paul Alfred Siemers, Malcolm Graham Smith, Jr.

Patent number: 9557754Abstract: A method of switching taps of an on-load tap changer includes providing a main finger, a first side finger including a first solid state switch and a second side finger including a second solid state switch. The main finger, the first side finger and the second side finger are utilized to provide a connection between the taps and a power terminal of the on-load tap changer. The method also includes triggering the on-load tap changer to shift the fingers from a first tap to a second tap of the on-load tap changer when a tap change signal is received and utilizing the first solid state switch and the second solid state switch to commutate a current during the tap change operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2014Date of Patent: January 31, 2017Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Ara Panosyan, Eva-Maria Baerthlein, Simon Herbert Schramm, Stefan Schroeder, Rohit Kumar Gupta, Pinwan Thiwanka Bandara Wijekoon, Malcolm Graham Smith, Jr.

Publication number: 20150162144Abstract: A method of switching taps by an on-load tap changer includes providing at least two fingers each comprising an impedance and a mechanical switch. When first and second mechanical switches of the first and second fingers are closed, they provide a connection between the first and second impedances of the first and second fingers and a power terminal of the on-load tap changer. The on-load tap changer is triggered to shift at least one of the fingers from a first tap to a second tap of the on-load tap changer when a tap change signal is received. A solid state switch connected between the first and second impedances is switched on to commutate a current from the first finger to the second finger during the tap change operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2013Publication date: June 11, 2015Applicant: General Electric CompanyInventors: Ara Panosyan, Eva-Maria Baerthlein, Simon Schramm, Stefan Schroeder, Malcolm Graham Smith, JR., Piniwan Thiwanka Bandara Wijekoon
