  • Publication number: 20040130271
Abstract: A switching transformer applies an alternating high voltage across an internal electrode and an external electrode which face each other with a glass tube as a dielectric body between them. The anode side of a diode is connected to the external electrode which is not a voltage supply side electrode, while the cathode side is grounded. When a relay connected to both the terminals of the diode is turned on, substantially equal amounts of positive ions and negative ions are generated, and a bacteria removal/disinfection effect can be obtained by emitting these positive ions and negative ions into the air. When the relay is turned off, a relatively small amount of positive ions and a relatively large amount of negative ions are generated, and a relaxation effect given by negative ions can be obtained by emitting these positive ions and negative ions into the air.

  • Patent number: 6745589
Abstract: A single-unit air conditioner has a housing and a cooler/heater unit housed in it. The cooler/heater unit can be put into and taken out of the housing with the housing kept connected to an air conditioning duct. Of the four panels forming the four side faces of the housing, three other than the one facing a wall can be removed individually from the housing. The cooler/heater unit has an indoor heat exchanger unit including an indoor blower, which is housed in a fan casing having an outflow opening that can be widened by removing a member so that the outflow opening can be used as an opening through which to maintain a fan. The indoor heat exchanger unit includes heating means for heating, which can be fitted and removed through either of the left-hand and right-hand side faces of the housing. Inside the housing are provided an indoor air passage and an outdoor air passage, of which at least part is partitioned by a partitioning member.

  • Publication number: 20040007000
Abstract: An air conditioning apparatus incorporates an ion generating device that generates positive and negative ions by applying an alternating-current voltage between electrodes. The generated positive and negative ions coexist in the air and, when they attach to the surfaces of airborne bacteria, they react chemically with each other and generate radical hydroxyl and hydrogen peroxide, which extract hydrogen atoms from the cells of the bacteria and thereby kill them. This sterilizing effect is combined with the temperature-conditioning, dehumidifying, humidifying, air-purifying, and other functions of the air conditioning apparatus to bring about a comfortable and healthful indoor environment.

  • Publication number: 20030072675
Abstract: An ion generating device generates O2−(H2O)n (where n is a natural number) as negative ions and H+(H2O)m (where m is a natural number) as positive ions, and discharges those ions into the air so that airborne germs are killed through an oxidation reaction by hydrogen peroxide H2O2 or radical hydroxyl OH generated through as an active species a chemical reaction between the negative and positive ions. Satisfactory sterilization is achieved when the negative and positive ions are generated in such a way that the concentrations of the negative and positive ions are both 10,000 ion/cc at a distance of 10 cm from the point at which they are generated.
