    Abstract: A method for detecting Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 in a sample including synthesizing an E. coli O157:H7 aptamer, adding the E. coli O157:H7 aptamer to the sample allowing for formation of a complex by contact of the E. coli O157:H7 aptamer with any E. coli O157:H7 in the sample, and determining the formation of the complex by detecting the presence of the complex in the sample. The E. coli O157:H7 aptamer includes a nucleic acid sequence as set forth in one of SEQ ID No. 1, SEQ ID No. 2, SEQ ID No. 3, SEQ ID No. 4, SEQ ID No. 5, and SEQ ID No. 6.
