  • Patent number: 7308974
Abstract: A pad clip (12) for a disc brake includes a first part configured to engage a brake pad support bracket (2). The clip further includes a spring leg that is positioned to engage the brake pad (4) and apply a force to the brake pad that generates an axial friction force on the brake pad. The clip has a support for receiving a pad return spring (18) and the support for the pad return spring is positioned so that it holds the pad return spring such that the pad return spring applies a return force that is in substantial alignment with the axial friction force. The disc brake is further arranged so that the center of gravity of the brake pads lies between the pad abutment force and the axial friction force.

  • Publication number: 20070227837
Abstract: A parking brake assembly includes a brake mechanism, a coupling mechanism and an apply mechanism. The brake mechanism includes a piston that clamps brake pads against a rotor. The coupling mechanism couples the apply mechanism to the brake mechanism. The coupling mechanism includes a first member having a first end and a second end. The first end is configured to engage the piston. The second end includes a pocket. The coupling mechanism includes a second member having a first end and a second end. The first end of the second member defines a roller surface. The roller surface has a ramp portion. The coupling mechanism includes a rolling member held by the pocket and disposed between the pocket and the roller surface. The rolling member travels along the roller surface when the first member moves a first distance increment along a first axis and the second member moves a second distance increment along a second axis.

  • Publication number: 20070119665
Abstract: A brake assembly including a caliper body that clamps brake pads against a rotor. The brake includes a support bracket defining a planar portion, a bridging portion and a pair of rails. The bridging portion extends in a generally perpendicular direction from the planar portion. The pair of rails extends from the bridging portion. Each of the rails has an inside face, an outside face, a top face, a bottom face and an outboard face. The inside face, the outside face, the top face and the bottom face are aligned in generally a perpendicular direction relative to the planar portion. A first dimension defining a length between the inside face and the outside face near the top face is less than a second dimension defining a length between the inside face and the outside near the bottom face.

  • Publication number: 20070068747
Abstract: A disc brake caliper assembly has a support bracket, a caliper body, a first brake pad, a second brake pad, and an actuator. The caliper body is slidably supported on the support bracket. The first brake pad is adapted to apply a first engagement force to the rotary component. The second brake pad is pivotally supported by the caliper body and is adapted to apply a second engagement force to the rotary component. The actuator is supported by the caliper body and is operable to exert a drive force on the second brake pad. The drive force has a magnitude that is less than the second engagement force. Actuation of the actuator pivots the second brake pad into engagement with the rotary component and induces the caliper body to slide relative to the support bracket such that the first brake pad engages the rotary component.

  • Publication number: 20060037821
Abstract: A brake caliper clip disposed between a caliper housing and a pair of brake pads. The clip includes a vertical face having a bridge member and a pair of leg members. The vertical face abuts a vertical brake pad abutment. The bridge member is disposed across a brake rotor clearance gap and said pair of leg members extend from said bridge member along each side of the brake rotor clearance gap. A spring member is connected to each of the leg members at a location distal from the bridge member. The spring member applies a force to the pair of brake pads urging the pair of brake pads towards the bridge member. The brake caliper clip both holds the brake pads in place and reducing sliding friction between the vertical brake pad abutment and the pair of brake pads.
