  • Patent number: 4925543
Abstract: A special system is described and illustrated for supporting and easily maneuvering, without the danger of breakage, a set of graphite anodes used for extracting the lead from the electrolyte in electrochemical processes for recovering the metals contained in spent accumulators.

  • Patent number: 4481098
Abstract: In processes for electrochemically extracting the metals contained in spent electrical accumulators, the accumulators are first immersed in activation tanks and then placed in dissolving tanks after connecting their poles to the direct current supply cables. This patent application discloses a plastics frame structure comprising numerous seats, each of which can house one accumulator. Each frame is provided with current-carrying bars from which there branch plastics-covered copper or aluminum cables, on the ends of which there are special contacts which are mounted on to the accumulator poles. The contacts are constructed in such a manner so as to protect the accumulator poles from being corroded by the electrolyte solution into which the frame is immersed. The use of the frame according to the invention simplifies and accelerates all the process operations, leading to a large reduction in operating costs.

  • Patent number: 4333219
Abstract: A method for recovering material from consumed accumulator batteries consists of providing a rotatable table, keeping the table under continuous rotation, continuously feeding a row of batteries tangentially to the periphery of the table in such a manner as to bring one of the side walls of the casing of each battery into contact with the table periphery such that a portion of said side wall projects below the table contour, exerting a radial thrust on that side wall of each battery casing which is opposite the wall in contact with the table periphery such as to keep said battery adhering to said table over a path corresponding to a substantial angle of rotation of the table, separating the lower horizontal wall of the respective casing from each battery by a cutting action carried out on that part of each battery which projects below the table contour while the battery is adhering to the table, so as to enable said wall to be separated from the remaining part of the battery by gravity, and then releasing the

  • Patent number: 3985630
Abstract: Metals are recovered from the electrodes and connections of spent electric storage batteries by the step of: (a) recharging the spent electric batteries; (b) removing the electrolyte from said recharged electric batteries; (c) removing the bottom of said recharged batteries from which the electrolyte has been removed; (d) washing the electrodes and inside and outside the bottomless batteries obtained in step (c) with water; (e) drying the batteries washed in step (d) and closing the openings in the top of the dry batteries; (f) connecting the positive terminal of a power supply to the negative pole of the batteries obtained according to step (e) with protection against contact between electrolyte and the negative pole; and (g) immersing the batteries obtained according to step (f) in an electrolyte.
