  • Patent number: 9964755
Abstract: A method and apparatus for correcting error modes of a deformable mirror, including selecting or targeting one or more target error modes of a deformable mirror; and designing a pattern and/or shape of one or more electrodes, wherein the pattern and/or shape of the electrodes are designed to optimally correct the target error modes when the electrodes are disposed on the deformable mirror via an active material. Also disclosed is a deformable structure, including a composite shell including a plurality of plies each including carbon fibers embedded in a resin; a nanolaminate comprising individual nanolayers attached to a first side of the composite shell; an actuation structure attached to a second side of the composite shell; and a flexible electrode routing layer attached to the actuation structure.

  • Patent number: 9097886
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for correcting at least one optical aberration, of known evolution of an optical system, the device comprising: a deformable mirror (1) having a contour; means (2) for deforming the mirror; characterized in that the mirror (1) has a geometry selected such that the contour of the mirror (1) is defined from a composite function of said at least one aberration and in that the means (2) for deforming the mirror are adapted to apply a flexing moment on the edges of the mirror, the deformable mirror being concave or convex when it is deformed.

  • Patent number: 8876306
Abstract: Optical devices can comprise a deformable mirror and a system for deforming said mirror. A deformation system comprises a first mechanical structure comprising a first surround, one or more electromechanical actuators attached to the first mechanical structure, a second mechanical structure comprising a substantially planar bottom and a second surround, both deformable, the bottom being attached to the first surround, the second surround being attached to the surround of the mirror, a rigid stud being attached to the bottom, substantially planar and centerd on the bottom, the electromechanical actuator or actuators exerting predetermined forces or bending moments on the stud so as to generate a particular distribution of the bending moments on the surround of the mirror, deforming it according to a geometrical form representative or of one or more predetermined geometrical aberrations.
