  • Patent number: 4038691
Abstract: Means providing stationary images have associated therewith sound related to each of the images. A plural number of non-translatable magnetic heads are used in conjunction with a control circuit so as to extend the recording time by enabling the recording or reproducing of independent sound tracks, one sound track per head, and switching such heads in sequence at end of each record or reproduce period. The control circuit may be electronic or electromechanical.

  • Patent number: 4020503
Abstract: Means for providing stationary images from slides and sound related to these images include a retainer for insertion of a slide, an endless taut magnetic tape mounted within the retainer, and stationary magnetic heads that impose sound tracks on the tape and reproduce such sound tracks. Control circuitry connected to the heads provide a group of sound tracks for each image of a slide in predetermined sequential order.

  • Patent number: 4019615
Abstract: In a print head, a print wheel comprising the combination of a disk, a plurality of permanently magnetized printing members bearing characters thereon, and electromagnet imparting translation to the printing members by magnetic interaction, and also providing capability of additional mechanical impact upon the printing members. The print wheel has the capability of providing means to create pulses for obtaining character selection. The wheel may be made of resilient material, preferably non-magnetic. This wheel is generally mounted on a shaft of a stepping motor, the start and stop action of the motor and character selection being controlled by logic circuits well known in the art. The motor and electromagnet are generally mounted in a movable carriage as used in a computer terminal typewriter.

  • Patent number: 4019110
Abstract: A stepping motor having a rotor bearing a font or character retaining wheel inductively coupled to a stator and powered by polyphase pulse power to produce a rotational magnetic field and a rotational torque upon the rotor, the stator also being powered during character selection by polyphase counter rotational magnetic field to produce a counter rotational torque for substantially instantaneous braking action upon the rotor. Means are provided for actuating the character fonts of the print wheel for rapid impact character printing. Auxiliary electro-mechanical braking may also be utilized as back-up and is controlled by the same system.

  • Patent number: 4010491
Abstract: A slide and magnetic tape retainer provides capability of insertion of a mounted transparency and has a spiral spring type tape that is self retractable, after being transported, to its original position. The tape is guided for non-interference with the slide or transparency within the retainer by means of rollers. Mechanical energy is stored in the tape when a portion of it has been transported, and upon release of the transported portion the tape returns to its original position by itself without use of any mechanical aids. Transportation of the tape occurs when a motor is energized by a push button and a cam on the motor in cooperation with a switch times the recording or reproducing period of the tape when such tape is also in cooperation with a magnetic head.

  • Patent number: 4009491
Abstract: A magnetic head with capability of eliminating or attenuating distortion having a magnetizable core and coil means formed thereon. Some cores have cavities internal thereto, one has no cavity and another has a window therein. All cores are tapered and most have an aperture or bore extending into the cores. In the record mode, coil means used for application of a carrier frequency to the head may have capacitive and inductively reactive components at resonance to each other. In the reproduce mode, either of the coils may be used to connect to external electronics. Advantage is gained by use of the carrier frequency coil having the reactive components since these components are at resonance to the carrier frequency signal previously recorded and hence the reproduced signal is at higher magnitude.

  • Patent number: 3993035
Abstract: This system provides means for storing electrical energy in a plurality of inductors during the period when no demand for the stored energy is made and having means for discharging the stored energy from each particular inductor to fire a particular igniter or spark plug, one igniter at a time. Circuits include individual inductors for each igniter, wherein the primaries are connected to the charging means and the secondaries of the inductors to the discharging means in order to provide the requisite energy needed to fire the igniters substantially instantaneously on demand. Circuits providing double energy storage inductors and capacitors also utilize a standard distributor having a minor modification. These circuits do not require the usual break points in the primary windings although the system may be battery energized. The conventional break point single transformer system has been modified using double energy techniques to very substantially increase its energy output as delivered to the igniters.

  • Patent number: 3961609
Abstract: A method for decreasing hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen emanating from the exhaust system of an internal combustion engine involves supplying substantially pure oxygen to the air intake means of the engine. Such pure oxygen may be passed from a tank in which it is stored to the air intake means of the engine. The pure oxygen may be created by storing a chemical compound in a chamber and heating the chamber so that the compound may release the oxygen, or oxygen can be created by electrolytically decomposing water, passing oxygen generated by such decomposition into a storage tank coupled to the air intake means of the engine.
