  • Publication number: 20130110967
Abstract: The prior art information system could not migrate a file in a file sharing system provided by a file storage to a plurality of cloud storages having different forms of connection and different properties, and therefore, could not manage the files via a single Stub information. The present invention provides a data mover program in a file storage to select one or more migration destination cloud storages based on a migration policy, a connection information table of cloud storages and a property information table of cloud storages. Then, a Stub information of the migrated file is created, and an identification information of the file in the cloud storage is stored in a file information table. When access occurs from a client to a file storage, the data mover program downloads a file from the cloud storage stored in the file information table corresponding to the Stub information and provides the file to the client.

  • Publication number: 20130110790
Abstract: A file is rapidly restored with minimal storage consumption when a file access request is made by the user. When file restoration takes place, a second server apparatus 3b transmits a directory image, which extends from the top directory to a predetermined lower level, of a directory image configured in a file system of a first server apparatus 3a at a date and time associated with a restoration destination directory among the data of files stored in a second storage apparatus 10b, to the first server apparatus 3a, and the first server apparatus 3a restores the directory image to a first storage apparatus 10a. If a request is sent from the first server apparatus 3a, the second server apparatus 3b reads an additional directory image from the second storage apparatus 10b and transmits the image to the first server apparatus 3a.

  • Patent number: 8433674
Abstract: The system of the present invention curbs an unnecessary inter-tier file migration and provides an inter-tier file migration that conforms to the utilization state. The hierarchical storage management system respectively migrates a frequently accessed file to the upper Tier, and an infrequently accessed file to the lower Tier. This system carries out inter-tier file migration in conformance with the utilization state. This system provides functions for anchoring a Tier for storage for a specified file, and for not permitting an inter-tier file migration.

  • Publication number: 20130080715
Abstract: The present invention provides a technique of suitably configuring a decision criterion for determining a transfer destination layer in rearrangement processing according to a task type and operation status and preventing performance degradation caused by arranging task data requiring a high response to a lower layer. At least one computing device (or management computing device or each host computing device) of a plurality of computing devices configures rearrangement reference information showing whether an access characteristic related to a task executed on a plurality of host computing devices is considered as a decision criterion for transfer destination determination in rearrangement processing of transferring data between actual storage areas of physical storage devices of different response performance.

  • Publication number: 20120330907
Abstract: A storage system 103 carries out first and second de-duplication processes in response to receiving a write request from a client. First, a determination is made as to whether a write target data item overlaps with any of the stored data items of a part of a stored data item group, which is a user data item group stored in a storage device 209, and if so, the write target data item is prevented from being stored in the storage device. Second, a determination is made as to whether a target stored data item, which is not finished being evaluated as to whether it overlaps with the stored data item in the first de-duplication process, overlaps with another stored data item, and if so, the target stored data item or the same data item overlapping with the target stored data item is deleted from the storage device 209.

  • Publication number: 20120311004
Abstract: Provided is a technique capable of efficiently operating files and directories that are stored in storage located in a physically far place from a file server, without causing a network latency. An index creation program is also loaded in a cloud computing environment, and a flag, which indicates whether or not to execute batch processing to a directory that has been migrated to the cloud side, is provided, whereby it becomes possible to collectively execute index creation processing for the migrated directory on the cloud side. More specifically, upon completion of migration of all files under a given directory to the cloud side, a flag, which indicates whether or not to perform batch processing on the cloud side, is validated for the metadata of the directory. Such a batch processing flag can be held for each application such as applications of the index creation processing and the virus check processing.

  • Publication number: 20120290641
Abstract: The present invention relates to a migration of a file from a path denotative NAS server to an ID denotative NAS server. In a file management device a migration-use path denotative NAS access section obtains a file deposit location from the path denotative NAS server, selects a migration target file based on the deposit location, and sends a read request with the deposit location of the migration target file to the path denotative NAS server, so as to obtain the migration target file. A migration-use denotative NAS access section generates a write request with the migration target file, sends it to the ID denotative NAS servers, and writes the file therein. In addition, the migration-use ID denotative NAS access section registers a GUID received from the ID denotative NAS servers in a file name/GUID management table, together with the file name of the migration target file.

  • Patent number: 8307019
Abstract: Files stored in a storage system are grouped in a metadata server, and storage servers discretely storing these files are instructed to detect file duplication and to remove duplicate data. The storage servers detect duplicate data by comparing file fragments stored by the storage servers themselves with each other. In a case where duplicate data is detected, the storage servers delete the duplicate data.
