  • Patent number: 5983387
Abstract: In a system recording compressed video and audio signals or computer user data on a disk in the sector unit, to reproduce the data in a simple fashion at a high speed, data to be recorded on the disk is divided into data in a predetermined unit so as to add a first error correction (C1) code to each of the resultant data, which form (C1) correction blocks. Sectors are produced each including a plurality of (C1) correction blocks. Added to each (C1) correction block is a code enabling identification of a sector. To all data in the plural (C1) correction blocks, a second error correction (C2) code is added to record the resultant data on the disk to allow interleaving or deinterleaving completing in a block. The capacity of each sector is set to be substantially equal to that of a plurality of transport packets.

  • Patent number: 5956193
Abstract: An apparatus for recording and reproducing a burst-like digital information signal, and a method capable of predicting the time of occurrence of a header indicating the beginning of the first data of a digital information signal during its reproduction from a recording medium. The digital signal includes a plurality of data blocks, each including a first header indicative of the head of the block, and each first header including the address of the block. During recording of a digital signal on the recording medium, a plurality of second headers, which are substantially the same as the first headers of the data blocks and including addresses having given relations with the addresses of the data blocks, are inserted in a clock regenerating signal recorded before the digital signal for regenerating the clock for the signal. The second headers are inserted at a period equal to the period of each data block so as to be synchronized with the headers of the data blocks.

  • Patent number: 5729649
Abstract: A digital video tape recorder ("VTR") that selects data useful for generating images during trick playback operation and records the data in trick play tape segments arranged on a tape to form fast scan tracks and multi-speed playback tracks. Each fast scan track comprises trick play tape segments located on a diagonal, relative to the length of the tape, of the same angle as the angle at which the heads of a VTR are expected to pass over the tape during trick play operation at a specific speed and direction of operation. Each multi-speed playback track comprises a plurality of trick play tape segments arranged parallel to the length of the tape. Data which is used for at least one mode of trick play operation is recorded in each trick play tape segment. Each fast scan track and multi-speed track crosses multiple normal play tracks.

  • Patent number: 5687275
Abstract: Methods of operating a digital video recording and playback device to identify trick play data, e.g., data that is intended for use during trick play modes of video playback device operation such as fast forward and reverse, by recording headers containing specific trick play information along with the trick play data are described. In one embodiment, the recording of headers which identify data as data intended for use during trick play as opposed to normal play operation is described. In addition to identifying data recorded data as normal play or trick play data headers associated with recorded data may identify the speed and direction of video tape recorder operation during which the specific data associated with the header is intended to be displayed at. When a data block includes data packets, a header may be used to identify various ones of the data packets as being for use during one mode of trick play operation, e.g.

  • Patent number: 5583650
Abstract: Methods of operating a digital video recording and playback device, such as a video tape recorder, to arrange trick play data into one or more groups, to generate error correction bits for each group of trick play data, e.g., a group of trick play data blocks, and to correct the data after being read back using the error correction bits is disclosed. The trick play data blocks are made to be smaller than normal play data blocks with multiple trick play data blocks being equal in size to a single normal play data block. By making a group of trick play data blocks equal in size to a single normal play data block, the group of trick play data blocks may be processed as a unit by the same error correction circuitry and in the same manner used to process individual normal play data blocks. In accordance with one embodiment, the error correction bits for a group of trick play data blocks are calculated treating the data in the group of trick play data blocks as a single unit.

  • Patent number: 5227928
Abstract: A magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus for recording a signal onto a magnetic tape and reproducing a recorded signal comprises magnetic heads mounted on a rotary cylinder, a tape driving mechanism, high speed running control device for driving a reel shaft to rotate at a speed higher than a normal recording/reproducing speed, tape-running detecting device, reel motor starting device for generating a ramp voltage having a suitable gradient, a switch for turning on/off the tape running speed control by the high speed running control device and adding device. In the apparatus the cylinder rotation speed follow-up control never comes out in making the high speed running of the tape rise, so that the relative speed between the head and tape is maintained to substantial constant.

  • Patent number: 4985648
Abstract: Respective current supply means (I.sub.A, I.sub.B) control conducting periods of corresponding transistors (Q.sub.3, Q.sub.4), whereby conducting periods of driving transistore (Q.sub.6, Q.sub.7) are also controlled. Thus, periods in which both of the driving transistors (Q.sub.6, Q.sub.7) simultaneously enter ON states are reduced and through current (I.sub.S) flowing to the ground level GND through the driving transistors (Q.sub.6, Q.sub.7) is reduced. A pull-down transistor (Q.sub.8) controls a conducting period of the driving transistor (Q.sub.7), whereby periods in which both of the driving transistors (Q.sub.6, Q.sub.7) simultaneously enter ON states are reduced and the through current (I.sub.S) is reduced.

  • Patent number: 4912524
Abstract: The invention relates to a system to transmit digital signals reproduced from a compact disk player, a digital audio tape recorder or the like. In order to increase the S/N ratio of transmission of the digital signals, the occurrence probability of data to be transmitted is made low and light emission time of a light emission element is made small, and the peak value of emission is increased corresponding to the above reduction. As a result, the S/N ratio can be increased in the same transmission band as that in the prior art. In order to reduce the occurrence probability of data, a method of generating pulses at the leading edge and the trailing edge of a pulse signal or a method of compressing data is provided.

  • Patent number: 4581728
Abstract: A tracking servo circuit for controlling an optical pickup is used in a tracking error detecting device including an optical system for forming on an optical disc a main light spot for illuminating a pit on the optical disc and forward and backward sub-light spots. The forward and backward sub-light spots are disposed before and behind the main light spot in the moving direction of a track with a small distance between each of the sub-light spots and the main light spot and are shifted from the center line of the track, so that a half of each sub-light spot area is placed on the pits of the track.

  • Patent number: 4580255
Abstract: A servo circuit for a signal reproducing apparatus for reproducing signals from a record medium such as a disc utilizing an optical pickup, wherein a variable gain amplifier is arranged in a servo loop between a pickup and an actuator so that the pickup is caused to track a signal track in accordance with a servo error signal produced by the variable gain amplifier. A playback condition of a disc is discriminated by detecting the number of errors in a signal reproduced from a recorded signal on the disc by the pickup, and a gain of the variable gain amplifier is controlled by the discrimination output so that the variation of the servo error signal caused by a difference in reflectance between individual discs is eliminated and a loop gain appropriate to an individual disc is automatically set.

  • Patent number: 3988406
Abstract: A method of providing a fibrous thermoplastic resin for depolymerization thereof wherein the fibrous thermoplastic resin is formed into a shaped article having a specific gravity of at least 1/2 of the true specific gravity of the fibrous thermoplastic resin, said shaped article consisting of the fibrous thermoplastic resin mass having on its surface a crusty thin resin layer which may be press-bonded or melt-bonded to the mass. The thus provided shaped article of the fibrous thermoplastic resin can be advantageously employed as a starting material for the depolymerization reaction. In accordance with this invention, the time required for completion of the depolymerization can be greatly shortened as compared with that of the conventional technique and the rate and efficiency of the depolymerization can be greatly improved.
