    Abstract: A biaxially oriented polyester film to be molded and laminated with a metal sheet which shows excellent moldability when it is laminated with a metal sheet and subjected to a can making process such as drawing and from which a metal can such as a drink can or food can having excellent heat resistance, retort resistance, taste and odor retention properties, impact resistance and corrosion preventing properties can be produced. This polyester film is produced from a copolyester which contains porous particles having an average particle diameter of 0.1 to 2.5 &mgr;m, a pore volume of 0.05 to 2.5 ml/g, a specific surface area of 50 to 600 m2/g and a compressive resistance of 1 to 100 MPa and has a glass transition temperature of 70° C. or higher and lower than 78° C., a melting point of 210 to 250° C. and an intrinsic viscosity of 0.50 to 0.80 dl/g.

    Abstract: A polyalkylene naphthalate for a film, which comprises a naphthalenedicarboxylic acid component as a main dicarboxylic acid component and an aliphatic glycol component as a main glycol component, and contains (a) an antimony compound and (b) a quaternary phosphonium sulfonate compound unit having an ester-forming functional group in such amounts that satisfy the following expressions (1) and (2): 0<Sb≦80  (1) 0<S/Sb≦0.4  (2) wherein Sb and S are the molar ratios (mmol %) of the antimony compound and the quaternary phosphonium sulfonate compound unit having an ester-forming functional group to the total of all the dicarboxylic acid components forming the polyalkylene naphthalate, respectively. The film of the present invention has excellent surface flatness and is suitable for use as a base film for a magnetic recording medium. It is also excellent in high-speed winding properties and can be formed into a film stably and produced industrially advantageously.

C.) of loss elastic modulus and the glass transition temperature (Tg, .degree. C.): Te-Tg.ltoreq.30, or its content of a free dicarboxylic acid diol ester is 50 ppm or less.

C., and has the maximum peak temperature of loss elastic modulus of higher than 47.degree. C. and 85.degree. C. or lower. This laminate polyester film is suitably used for application such as metal cans for juice and other refreshing drinks that are handled in a cooled state.

    Abstract: A biaxially oriented film which is made substantially of (1) a polyethylene naphthalate copolymer comprising an ethylene naphthalate unit in an amount of 92 to 99.5 mol % based on all recurring units and at least one copolymer component selected from the group consisting of (a) a glycol having a fluorene skeleton in the molecule, (b) p-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid, (c) p-hydroxyethoxybenzoic acid and (d) p-hydroxyethoxyethoxybenzoic acid in an amount of 0.5 to 8 mol % based on the total of all dicarboxylic acid components, and which has (2) Young's moduli in both longitudinal and transverse directions of 500 kg/mm.sup.2 or more and (3) a delamination resistance of 10% or less in terms of fold line whitening ratio. Since this biaxially oriented film of the present invention is excellent in delamination resistance, curling resistance, mechanical strength, color and transparency, it is of great value as a base film for a photo film.
