The transmission pulse generator generates transmission timing pulses for transmission signals from the antenna based on the rotational angle of the antenna main body. The transmitter transmits transmission signals via the antenna according to the transmission timing pulses generated by the transmission pulse generator.

A trend curve calculating module calculates a trend curve of a distance-direction signal level of the reception data in the polar coordinate system. A target detecting module detects a target based on the signal level of the reception data and the trend curve. The radar apparatus may include a tuning voltage alteration decider for deciding whether or not to alter the tuning voltage based on a combination of alternate pulselengths before altering the pulselength of the pulse signal generated by a transmitter and the tuning processor alters the tuning voltage based on the result of decision made by the tuning voltage alteration decider.
