  • Patent number: 7020780
Abstract: Plural program information and a BCA (Burst Cutting Area) number of the optical disc 100 is previously recorded in the optical disc 100. A drive ID is stored in the nonvolatile memory 104a of the reproduction apparatus 104. A user of the reproduction apparatus 104 notifies the BCA number, the drive ID, and a number of preferred program information to the software house (software supplier) 110 on the condition that the user pays for the reproduction of the preferred program information recorded in the optical disc 100. The software house 110 notifies a cipher key to the reproduction apparatus 104 or the user. A title key is calculated in the reproduction apparatus 104 in accordance with the BCA number, the drive ID, and the cipher key. The preferred information recorded in the optical disc 100 is permitted to be reproduced by using the title key.

  • Patent number: 6538965
Abstract: An optical disc has an information recording portion. The information recording portion has a spiral of a groove, and land portions located between portions of the groove which neighbor each other as viewed in a disc radial direction. Auxiliary information used when an information signal is recorded on and reproduced from the groove is previously recorded on the land portions. The auxiliary information is represented by pre-pits provided in the land portions. The information recording portion is divided into a plurality of zones as viewed in the disc radial direction. In each of the zones, at least one of two sides of the groove wobbles at a fixed frequency in accordance with a constant angular velocity system. In each of the zones, phases of wobbles of respective neighboring portions of the groove are equal to each other.

  • Patent number: 6463539
Abstract: A user 11 loads a disc 13a and an IC card 16 into a reproduction apparatus 26. A reproduction managing information 14 and a reproduction permitting information 18 are read out from the disc 13a and the IC card 16 respectively. In the reproduction apparatus 26, the read out respective reproduction managing information 14 and reproduction permitting information 18 are checked and judged whether a reproduction is permitted or not. In case that the reproduction is permitted, a software information 12 in the disc is reproduced and a utilization information in the IC card 16 is detected at a same time. The utilization information 19 is recorded on the IC card 16 when the reproduction is completed. In a rental shop 28, the utilization information 19 is read out from the IC card 16 when the disc is returned to the rental shop 28 and an amount of rental fee to be charged to a user is calculated in response to the utilization information 19.

  • Patent number: 5844876
Abstract: A double-layer optical disk comprises first and second substrates which include information pits and are bonded at their confronting faces. Each substrate has at least one information pit formed on a surface thereof for recording the information, and receives reproduction light irradiated from a predetermined reading direction. And, the information pit formed on the first substrate is different in size from the information pit formed on the second substrate.

  • Patent number: 5502698
Abstract: According to an automatic attitude correcting system of this invention, correction signals which are used to reduce control errors through a focus control, a tracking control, a tilt control, etc. are determined by measuring the amplitude of an RF reproduction signal reproduced from an optical disc at a predetermined area. For setting a correction signal value to be supplied to an attitude control mechanism such as an attitude control mechanism, a scanning signal whose signal level varies with time variation is supplied to a control mechanism driving circuit. The scanning signal varies in level at every one-revolution of the optical disc, and the amplitude of the RF reproduction signal is outputted from the optical head at every one-revolution of the optical disc, and measured at a predetermined angle for each level of the scanning signal.

  • Patent number: 4843708
Abstract: An assembly method for an automotive engine and a transmission to provide a power unit. The assembly method is carried out as follows: The engine and the transmission are supported respectively on respective lifter tables which are controllably movable to change the location of the engine and the transmission in accordance with a location correction command fed thereto. The engine and transmission are provided at their joining faces with joining standards, respectively. Then, a pair of CCD cameras are inserted into between the joining faces of the engine and transmission to pick up the images of the respective joining standards. The thus picked-up images of the joining standards are processed by a processor to detect the positions of the joining standards and provide the location correction command to at least one of the lifter tables, so that at least one of the locations of the engine and the transmission is changed to cause the joining standards to coincide with each other.
