    Abstract: The present invention relates to an aqueous coating material based on a water-soluble resin having the OH group for airbag base fabric. The water-soluble resin is a polyvinyl alcohol (PVAL). An aliphatic carboxylic acid or polyisocyanate which can cross-link with the OH group of the PVAL by heat treatment, and polyol as a plasticizer such as a liquid polyethylene glycol which does not volatilize in heat treatment are added. A water-insoluble coating film having excellent heat and moisture resistance (hot water resistance) and flexibility can be formed on one surface or both surfaces of the cloth.

    Abstract: An airbag includes a body cloth made of polyamide woven fabric and constituting a circumferential wall of the airbag. The body cloth includes on the inner surface a bond area having a coating layer of polyamide elastomer and to which a supplementary cloth made of polyamide woven fabric is bonded, an extended area having a same coating layer of polyamide elastomer as on the bond area, and an uncoated area that has no coating layer. The coating layer on the bond area is used as heat sealable adhesive that adheres the supplementary cloth to the body cloth whereas that on the extend area is arranged in such a manner as to be exposed to inflation gas upon airbag inflation so as to act as a protective membrane for preventing gas leakage.

    Abstract: An airbag includes on an area of a circumferential wall encircling mounting holes a reinforced area that has a laminated structure of base cloths, i.e. a body cloth and a plurality of reinforcing cloths overlaid on the body cloth. Each of the base cloths has an adhesive layer on one surface and, the reinforced area includes in between the base cloths an adhesion area that bonds the base cloths together by heat sealing. The adhesion area is formed between two of the base cloths immediately adjoining each other or between two of the base cloths that has at least one other base cloth placed in between and at an area of the other base cloth where there is no cloth. All the base cloths are bonded together by the adhesion area without slippage from one another in a direction orthogonal to a layering direction of the base cloths.
