  • Publication number: 20150131532
Abstract: A method of routing a session from a calling party in a serving communication network of the calling party to a called party is described. The serving communication network of the calling party is distinct from a home communication network of the calling party. The method is executed by a session routing node in the serving communication network of the calling party. In order to optimize a session routing path of signaling data of the session, the method comprises receiving from the home communication network of the calling party a session routing request requesting routing the signaling data of the session to the called party via the serving communication network of the calling party, and routing the signaling data of the session to the called party via the serving communication network of the calling party based on the received session routing request.

  • Patent number: 9025553
Abstract: An apparatus configured to operate as a Service Centralization and Continuity Application Server (SCC-AS) within an IP Multimedia Subsystem network, the apparatus comprises a receiver for receiving a SIP INVITE originating from or sent via an access domain and for determining that the INVITE relates to a handover of a User Equipment (UE) currently served by the SCC-AS, to that access domain and for which a session with a peer UE is ongoing and the apparatus further comprises a message handler for determining if capabilities for the ongoing session, identified within said INVITE, have changed with respect to capabilities previously associated with the ongoing session and, if it is determined that capabilities have changed, for causing a SIP message to be sent to said peer UE, the message containing the changed capabilities.

  • Patent number: 8848690
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method, a system and a server for automatically discovering the common Multimedia Service Capability, and computer program. This solution avoid unnecessary use of the radio interface and is based on making use of the circuit switched network, e.g. the Intelligent network IN, as trigger to the packet switched network to find out about the calling as well as the called user's multimedia capabilities during a voice call. If there is a positive capability discovery result out of this for both users, the network will send a message to each of the two mobile phones that they should notify the users e.g. by displaying an icon above a soft button. It can be that the phone displays a shared multimedia-Image icon, if this was the only commonly supported capability of both users, up to a whole range of more or less complicated SMM services.

  • Patent number: 8730942
Abstract: A method and arrangement for enabling multimedia during an ongoing circuit-switched call between a first mobile terminal and a second terminal, wherein the first terminal uses a first access having constraints by not admitting simultaneous packet-switched and circuit-switched communication. A change of connection is detected from the first access to a second access having no such constraints by admitting simultaneous packet-switched and circuit-switched communication. A capability query is then sent to the second terminal in response to said detection. When the requested capabilities are received from the second terminal, possible multimedia applications and/or services are indicated to the user according to the received capabilities.

  • Patent number: 8687787
Abstract: A method and arrangement for providing a ring-back presentation to a calling terminal after receiving a call setup request from the calling terminal (A) for a first communication session (308) with a called terminal (B). A second packet-based communication session (310) is established with the calling terminal, independent of the first session, and pre-defined media content is provided as said ring-back presentation (312) to the calling terminal over the second session. Thereby, ring-back presentations to waiting callers can be selected from a great range of media types, including visual media. A calling user can also control the playout or display of the ring-back presentation irrespective of when the call is answered.

  • Publication number: 20130287016
Abstract: A method in a first user terminal (300, 500) for supporting provision of capabilities of the first user terminal to a second user terminal (302) is provided. The method comprises receipt (402) of a capability request from the second user terminal. Upon receipt of the capability request, filtering rules are used (406) on the capabilities of the first user terminal, wherein the filtering rules have been pre-configured for the first user terminal to control exposure of said capabilities. Thereafter a capability message is transmitted (408) to the second user terminal, wherein at least one of the capabilities of the first user terminal have been omitted from the capability message based on the filtering rules.

  • Patent number: 8443091
Abstract: A method and application server for providing different services and performing service changes in a multimedia communication system. When a first client invites a second client to join a multimedia session, the server learns which media types are supported by each client, including first and second media types supported by the server. The first client then sends the server a request on a media control channel to transmit media of the first and second types. The server verifies the requested media types are supported by the second client and sends the first client a grant for the requested media types. The server receives a first media burst of the first media type from the first client and retransmits the burst to the second client, and then receives a second media burst of the second media type from the first client and retransmits the burst to the second client.

  • Patent number: 8411580
Abstract: A method of maintaining cached Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) terminal capability information at an end user terminal of a telecommunication system, for one or more other end user terminals. The method comprises predefining one or more signalling message properties for signalling messages to be received from peer terminals, and recording the properties at said end user terminal, examining incoming signalling messages received from peer terminals to determine whether or not they possess a predefined property, and if an incoming signalling message does possess a predefined property, reacting by refreshing the cached capability information for the sending terminal.

  • Patent number: 8259709
Abstract: A method and arrangement for controlling a multimedia communication session between a first terminal and a second terminal, the session being divided into a circuit-switched part and a packet-switched part. A notification on an event occurring in one of said circuit-switched and packet-switched parts is received in a common session server. The session server then reports to the other part of the communication session about said event, such that said other part can be controlled in response to said event.

  • Patent number: 8239547
Abstract: In current multimedia communication systems using session initiation protocols such as SIP, a service change (e.g. adding a new media type to an existing multimedia conversation) entails significant delays and processor load in both clients and server. The current invention solves this by separating session signaling and media control signaling in different signaling channels (141,142) and by eliminating the need to re-establish SIP sessions for each service change. The application server (120) maintains a list of all media types supported by each multimedia client (110) involved in a multimedia conversation. Each multimedia client (110) requesting to send one or several media streams with different media types to one or several other multimedia client(s) negotiates with the application server (120) only. The inventive concept significantly reduces networks delays and speeds up the service change as perceived by the user. The invention is of interest for various multimedia conferencing applications.

  • Patent number: 8155626
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling communication of IP multimedia content to a called user during a circuit-switched call between a calling terminal (A) having called a primary communication unit (B1), when the call has been forwarded to a secondary communication unit (B2). The calling terminal receives a connected number during a call set-up procedure, e.g. by subscribing to a called line presentation (COLP) service. The calling terminal stores the received connected number and determines multimedia capabilities of the secondary communication unit based on the connected number. Available multimedia options can then be determined based on the multimedia capabilities of the secondary communication unit.

  • Publication number: 20110314140
Abstract: A method and apparatus for handling a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) OPTIONS capability query message in a communication network. A SIP proxy node receives a SIP OPTIONS message from a querying node. It sends the message to a plurality of devices, and receives a response from at least two of the plurality of devices. Each response includes an identity of the responding device and an indication of the capabilities of the responding device. Each received response is stored in a memory, and a reply message is generated. The reply message includes the identities and capabilities of all of the responding devices. This reply message is then sent to the querying node. This allows the querying node to receive capability information relating to all of the callee's devices rather than just the one that responds first.

  • Patent number: 8040874
Abstract: A method, a system, a server, and a computer program product are provided for Multimedia Capability discovery of different user terminals. Unnecessary use of the radio interface is avoided based on a network storage, which is accessible without registration to find out about the calling as well as the called user's multimedia capabilities during a voice call. If there is a positive capability discovery result out of this for both users, the system sends a message to each of the user terminals that they should notify the users, e.g., by displaying an icon above a soft button. There is no need for establishing a packet switched session, which uses a lot of radio interface signalling, until the Multimedia Service capability of both subscribers and their user terminals is investigated and responded to both user terminals and their users.
