    Abstract: The present invention provides a communication device for use with a power line communication system. One embodiment of the present invention forms a communication device that comprises a first wireless modem, a controller, a second modem, and a sensor module. The controller operates the sensor module to take power line parameter measurements such as measurements of the voltage and/or current, which may be wirelessly transmitted to a remote device by the first modem. In addition, the controller may compare the measurements with thresholds and transmit notifications if a measurement is beyond a threshold. Data may be received from one or more user devices, such as utility meters or computers, by the second modem and wirelessly transmitted upstream by the first modem.
