Publication number: 20150158341Abstract: A pneumatic tire comprises an annular tread portion including a plurality of circumferentially extending main grooves comprising an innermost groove, an outermost groove, and at least one middle groove arranged between the innermost groove and the outermost groove. The outermost groove comprises an inner sidewall, an outer sidewall, a groove bottom, and a groove opening opposite to the groove bottom, wherein the outermost groove has an asymmetric cross section with respect to any straight line perpendicular to the groove opening, and wherein the outer sidewall of the outermost groove is tilted by more than 20° with respect to a straight line perpendicular to the groove opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 9, 2013Publication date: June 11, 2015Applicant: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Phaniraj Muthigi, Jean-Louis Marie Felicien Thomas, Francois Philippe Depouhon, Julien Alexandre Fursthos, Michael Howard Curtis

Patent number: 9027611Abstract: A tire has a circumferential tread, the tread including shoulder tread regions configured for off-road performance separated by and interlocking with a center tread region configured for on-road performance. The shoulder tread regions are defined by a repeating pattern of two or more distinct shoulder tread elements and the center tread region is defined by a repeating pattern of two or more distinct center tread elements. The shoulder tread elements each have a ground contacting surface area greater than a ground contacting surface area of the center tread elements. The center tread elements extend at a relatively greater angle of inclination with respect to an equatorial centerplane of the tire and the shoulder tread elements extend at a relatively lesser angle of inclination with respect to the centerplane.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2008Date of Patent: May 12, 2015Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Charles Joseph Ashton, Mark Leonard Bonko, Robert Edgar Boore, Michael Howard Curtis, Max Harold Dixon, Joshua Randall Elsass, John David Renner

Publication number: 20100018618Abstract: The invention relates to a tire with a tread of a cap/base construction comprised of a two-ply (dual layered) tread cap rubber layer comprised of a combination of an outer tread cap layer and an inner tread cap layer together with an underlying tread base rubber layer which underlies the two-ply tread cap layer. The tread cap layer is of a lug and groove configuration with at least a portion of the grooves extending through the outer tread cap layer into the inner tread cap layer without extending to the tread base rubber layer. The outer tread cap rubber layer is comprised of a carbon black-rich rubber composition to promote dry traction for the tread running surface. The inner tread cap layer is comprised of a softer silica-rich rubber composition to promote wet traction for tread running surface as the outer tread cap layer wears away to expose the softer inner tread cap layer.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 24, 2008Publication date: January 28, 2010Inventors: Brandy Elizabeth Moorhead, Jennifer Lyn Ryba, Matthias Bode, Colleen Anne Nowacki, Daniel Christian Shavers, David Ray Hubbell, Michael Howard Curtis, Justin Barker, Marc Christopher Nowacki
