  • Patent number: 6544251
Abstract: An improved peripherally inserted catheter with its soft ferule including a “ball-like” structure between the soft exterior tube and the soft ferule. A clamp is also provided which is characterized by a clamping force sufficient to clamp the exterior soft tube but insufficient to crimp the inner tube of the ferule for the situation where the clamp were to creep onto the ferule. A sterile screw assembly is coupled to the end of the ferule in another arrangement.

  • Patent number: 6039707
Abstract: A pelvic support and walking assistance device is disclosed which includes a trunk support member and a thigh lifting member coupled to each other at a pivot joint positioned opposite a hip joint of a user. The device functions to prevent pelvic sway. With a spring coupled with said pivot joint, the device further provides a thigh lifting torque to partially compensate for proximal leg weakness. The spring assistance pivot device includes a winding device that can be adjusted in use for varying forward torque for varying situations.

  • Patent number: 5666677
Abstract: A portable bath tub (20, 20A, 20C) and a supporting frame (46, 17A, 200) for the bath tub (20, 20A, 20C) are positioned alongside a bed (10, 10A, 10C). The bath tub (20, 20A, 20C) has a front side (76) which overlaps a mattress (12, 12A, 12C) on the bed (10, 10A, 10C) and is supported thereby. The tub (20, 20A, 20C) bridges the bed (10, 10A, 10C) and the supporting frame. The bed (10B) has a bed frame (14B) which is movable vertically for raising and lowering the bath tub (20) which is partially supported on the mattress (12B).

  • Patent number: 5584082
Abstract: A convertible gurney (10) has an outer fixed support frame (12) which includes a pair of side frames (16) connected by lower horizontal cross frame members (30). An inner frame (14) includes a base (84) and hinged segments (42, 46 and 48) which define rear, seat and leg segments. Inner frame (14) is positioned between the side frames (16) and removably connected thereto by four fasteners (90). A detachable manual operator (170) is mounted on a selected side frame (16) opposite a bed (36) for a patient and effects movement of the segments (42, 46, 48) between gurney and chair positions by operation of a hand crank (184). Each side frame (16) has a foldable side panel (190) which may be utilized in transfer of a patient between a bed (36) and the convertible gurney (10). A patient is first positioned on a hard transfer board (36) as shown in FIGS. 9 and 10 and moved with the transfer board (36) across the side panel (190) forming a bridge between the bed (36) and the convertible gurney (10).

  • Patent number: 5579543
Abstract: A method is disclosed for transferring a patient in a prostrate position sidewise between a bath tub (20, 20A, 20C) and bed (10, 10A, 10C) without lifting of patient (P). The method includes the steps of sliding a patient P over a front side (76) into the bottom (70) of the tub for bathing the patient, and returning the patient after bathing over the front side to the bed (20). The front side (76) of the tub (20, 20A, 20C) overlaps the mattress (12, 12A, 12C) and is supported thereon. The bed frame (14, 14B) and mattress (12, 12B) are movable vertically for raising and lowering the tub (20, 20A, 20C). The patient is moved into and out of the tub (20, 20A, 20C) when the tub (20, 20A, 20C) is in a lowered position, and is bathed with the tub in the raised position.

  • Patent number: 5402544
Abstract: A combined mobile chair and gurney (10) having an outer base support frame (12) and an inner movable frame (14). Outer support frame (12) has a pair of opposed vertical side frames (16) and a plurality of lower cross members (30) extending between the lower ends of the side frames (16). Inner movable frame (12) has a lower base (84) supported on cross members (30) of the outer frame (12), and a pair of linkages (72, 74) supported on the base (84) connected to three hinged segments (48, 52, 54) which define a rear back support segment (48), an intermediate seat support segment (52), and a front leg support segment (54). The linkages (72, 74) are operatively connected to drive nuts (106, 126) which are mounted on an externally threaded power screw (108) for movement. A patient is supported in a supine position at the uppermost position of the hinged segments (48, 52, 54) shown in FIG. 2 and is supported in a seated position at a lower position of the hinged segments (48, 52, 54) as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5.
