Patent number: 8711842Abstract: Techniques are described by which an IP telephone system leverages the digital signal processing functions of end-user IP telephones by distributing signal processing tasks typically carried out by a centralized IP-PBX. The end-user IP telephones publicize their signal processing capabilities and availabilities to an IP-PBX, which maintains a resource capability mapping of the IP telephones. When the IP-PBX receive a bitstream for a communication session involving IP telephones and/or legacy phones of the IP telephone system, the IP-PBX determines the signal processing requirements for the bitstream, selects an available, capable IP telephone to perform the requirements, and distributes the bitstream to the selected IP telephone. The IP telephone performs the requisite signal processing and returns the processed bitstream to the IP-PBX, which forwards the processed bitstream to the destination endpoint for the communication session.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2010Date of Patent: April 29, 2014Assignee: Juniper Networks, Inc.Inventor: Michael Knappe

Publication number: 20100058635Abstract: A wind deflectable sign-stand includes a base, a mast for mounting a sign, and first and second polymeric resilient support members connecting the mast to the base. The mast has first and second mast members, and a breakaway member including a first end and a second end and being operably connected to the first and second mast members. The sign-stand is configured such that, upon sufficient impact, the breakaway member will fracture, thereby separating the first end and the second end. Such separation of the first end and the second end occurs along a breakaway section of the breakaway member, and the breakaway section defines a first acute angle with respect to a plane perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the breakaway member.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 4, 2009Publication date: March 11, 2010Applicant: EASTERN METAL OF ELMIRA, INC.Inventors: Michael KNAPP, Stephen T. Publication number: 20080090244Abstract: Methods are provided for detecting low copy nucleic acids of interest in a sample. In one method, a sample comprising a nucleic acid of interest is aliquotted into a plurality of reaction mixtures, at least two of which are single-copy reaction mixtures. The reaction mixtures are subjected to one or more amplification reactions while flowing through a channel of a microfluidic device. At least one of the reaction mixtures is formulated in an aqueous phase of an emulsion comprising aqueous droplets suspended in an immiscible liquid. The nucleic acid of interest is present as a single copy in at least one aqueous droplet of the aqueous phase prior to performing the amplification reaction(s). Amplification is performed on the reaction mixture when it is formulated in the emulsion. The nucleic acid is continuously flowed during a plurality of steps of the method.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 17, 2007Publication date: April 17, 2008Applicant: CALIPER LIFE SCIENCES, INC.Inventors: Michael Knapp, Jill Baker, Andrea Chow, Anne Kopf-Sill, Michael Spaid
