Publication number: 20210289853Abstract: A perimeter seal device is constructed in three layers to easily convert a non-sealed face mask to a face mask with a perimeter seal. The device has a top and bottom release liner, partitioned for providing the perimeter seal to an existing manufactured mask, with a double-sided adhesive layer in the middle formed with pressure-sensitive adhesive. A pre-cut perimeter portion of the adhesive layer provides the perimeter seal. The construction of the perimeter seal device allows alternate methods for fixing either side of the perimeter portion of the adhesive layer onto a face mask. The opposing side of the adhesive perimeter portion is adhered directly on a wearer's face. The device provides a way to convert a surgical or other non-sealed face mask to a sealed mask.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2020Publication date: September 23, 2021Inventors: Michael L. Bowen, Richard Bennett

Publication number: 20180007982Abstract: A facemask includes an air-filtering portion comprising an air-permeable filtering media; a see-through portion in the filtering media; and a layered portion on each opposing side of the see-through portion. The see-through portion is configured so that, in use, a mouth of a wearer is visible therethrough, and is formed from a transparent film covering a void in, and fixed along its periphery to, the filtering media. The film extends across the length of the facemask, including over the void, forming layered portions of film on filtering media on opposing sides of the clear-portion. A method of manufacture includes removing, e.g., kiss-cutting, the air-permeable filtering media away to form the see-through portion, after layering the film onto the filtering media.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 7, 2017Publication date: January 11, 2018Inventors: Rex D. Reese, George D. Reese, Michael L. Bowen

Patent number: 8430100Abstract: A face mask has upper and lower portions made of mask material. The upper and lower portions are joined together at side portions and a front portion. The side portions converge as the side portions extend from a face edge to the front portion. The mask has sections between the face edge and the front portion, with each section having a head retainer, a nose strip or both. The sections are divisible from each other along separation zones or bands that extend between the side edges. The size of the mask can be reduced by removing one or more sections, leaving one or more sections that incorporate the front edge and the shortened side edges.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2009Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: Prestige Ameritech Ltd.Inventors: George D. Reese, Michael L. Bowen

Patent number: 8061356Abstract: A face mask has mask material and ties or ear loops coupled to the mask material. The face mask is flat until worn. The mask material has an outside and an inside, which inside is designed to be against the wearer's face when the mask is worn. A deformable nose strip is provided near a top edge of the mask material. The nose strip is preformed into a contour for fitting about a nose. The contour bows out from the inside to the outside. A wearer donning the mask intuitively knows to orient the contour to the wearer's nose, wherein the inside is automatically positioned against the wearer's face.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2008Date of Patent: November 22, 2011Assignee: Prestige Ameritech Ltd.Inventor: Michael L. Bowen

Patent number: 7793892Abstract: A holder or organizer has first and second strips releasably fastened together by coupling material such as by hook and loop material. The strips each have two ends, namely a bonding end and a free end. The two bonding ends are coupled together. The first strip has an adhesive on its outside. The second strip has a selvedge area adjacent an edge, which selvedge area lacks releasable coupling material. The selvedge area will not fasten to the first strip. A user can easily grip the selvedge area of the second strip and peel the second strip off of the first strip. A tongue extends in the direction of the bonding ends of the strips and works in conjunction with a non-tongue area of the upper strip to more securely hold an object in the holder.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2008Date of Patent: September 14, 2010Assignee: Prestige Ameritech Ltd.Inventors: Michael L. Bowen, George D. Reese

Publication number: 20090099633Abstract: An ice pack including a bag having a containment section with an opening. Two layers of adhesive material are be disposed on adjacent portions of the opening. One layer has a lesser width than the other layer, so that when the layers are engaged, the layer with the greater width engages both the other layer and a portion of the interior surface of the bag. At least one removable liner and preferably two removable liners may be disposed on respective layers of the adhesive material. The ice pack may be satisfactory for a single use.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 17, 2008Publication date: April 16, 2009Applicant: ADVANCED MATERIALS GROUP, INC.Inventors: Michael L. Bowen, William G. Mortensen

Patent number: 6361553Abstract: An ice pack generally intended for single patient use includes an elongated bag member defined by opposite side panels. The bag member has a closed end and an open opposite end. The open end is used for introducing ice into the bag member by pulling the side panels apart at the open end. A portion of at least one of the side panels generally adjacent to the open end is expandable from a first width defined between sealed edges of the bag member to an increased width so as to provide a greater effective cross-sectional area to the opening in order to aid in filling the ice pack.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1999Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventor: Michael L. Patent number: 6257235Abstract: A face mask is provided having a filter body sized to cover the nose and mouth of a wearer, a securing mechanism for holding the filter body in close fit with the wearer's face, and a fan attachment to enhance breathability and comfort of the mask. The fan is powered and configured with the exterior of the filter body to aid in drawing air through the filter media of the mask. The fan operates to draw warm, moist exhaled air from the interior volume of the mask to improve comfort, facilitate inhalation, and decrease fogging of any transparent portions of the mask or eye coverings. The fan may additionally operate to force cool, fresh air into the interior volume of the mask, also for the comfort of the wearer.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1999Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Assignee: Kimberly-Clark Worldwide, Inc.Inventor: Michael L. Patent number: 6036004Abstract: The invention relates to a multi-compartment bag which provides for the separation of two substances until their desired intermixing. A specific application of this multi-compartment bag is for hot or cold chemical packs. The substances in the multi-compartment bag are separated by two breakable walls and a third compartment which together act as a barrier to migration of one substance into the second substance, which would reduce the shelf life and efficiency of the hot or cold chemical pack. The present invention's use of two breakable walls and a compartment, empty or containing an inert substance, separating two reactive substances, provides a longer shelf life, a high efficiency, more reliability and improved ease of operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 1997Date of Patent: March 14, 2000Inventor: Michael L. Bowen
