Patent number: 11321069Abstract: A system and method for supplying on-premise hyper-converged systems uses a cloud service to receive orders for the on-premise hyper-converged systems from customers and to request a system integrator to procure hardware components of the on-premise hyper-converged systems and to assemble hardware components to produce assembled systems. Software components are remotely installed and configured in the assembled systems from the cloud service using bring-up appliances in virtual private clouds created for the on-premise hyper-converged systems to deploy software-defined data centers (SDDCs) in the on-premise hyper-converged systems. The resulting on-premise hyper-converged systems with the deployed SDDCs can then used by the customers.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2019Date of Patent: May 3, 2022Assignee: VMWARE, INC.Inventors: Michael L. Hall, Sridevi Ravuri, Rajesh Agarwalla, Emily Hong Xu, Venkat Deep Rajan, Andrew T. Chin, Hasan Mahmood, Sushil Shripal Munot, Yateendra Kulkarni

Patent number: 7873731Abstract: Systems detect maliciously formed TCP/IP retransmit packets attempting to pass through an intrusion detection system (IDS) and prevent them from reaching their destination by forcing early flow termination. As each packet arrives in the IDS, the TTL field is monotonically decreased by setting it to the smallest TTL received from the packet flow. Any packet flow that attempts to confuse the sensor with a low TTL will be starved off and will never reach the destination host. Each flow may be periodically reset to a high value or to the current packet value to allow flow recovery. In another embodiment, the TTL decrease mechanism may operate on a contingent basis, determined by the presence or absence of the flow identifier on a pre-determined list of flows that should never be restricted.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2004Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Nicholas Leavy, Michael L. Patent number: 7526806Abstract: According to one embodiment of the invention, a computerized method for addressing intrusion attacks directed at a computer includes receiving a data stream corresponding to a potential attack on the computer and calculating an event risk rating for the data stream. Calculating the event risk rating includes determining at least one component risk rating. In one embodiment, the component risk ratings are: a signature fidelity rating indicative of the likelihood the potential attack will affect the computer in the absence of knowledge regarding the computer, an attack relevance rating indicative of the relevance of the potential attack to the computer, and a target value rating indicative of the perceived value of the computer. The method also includes responding to the potential attack based on the calculated risk rating.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2003Date of Patent: April 28, 2009Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Kevin L. Wiley, Michael L. Hall, Gerald S. Lathem, Robert E. Gleichauf

Patent number: 7500264Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to systems that detect maliciously formed TCP/IP retransmit packets attempting to pass through an intrusion detection system (IDS) and prevent them from reaching their destination by forcing early flow termination. The IDS may be configured to track a hash of certain fields in each packet. This set of hashes is maintained for all of the packets in the currently open TCP window for each flow. If the hash of a retransmit packet does not match the cached hash of the corresponding original packet, the system concludes that there is an attack under way and terminates the flow. The hash function may range in complexity and security from low complexity and relative insecurity to high complexity and high security. Hash algorithms may also be used in conjunction with a private seed value concatenated with the packet fields prior to hashing.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2004Date of Patent: March 3, 2009Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Nicholas Leavy, Michael L. Hall, Jr., Timothy Hahn, Mohit Jaggi

Publication number: 20030053532Abstract: Error display in a multiple carrier modulation format. In a multiple carrier modulation format such as OFDM, displaying error spectrum plots and error time plots. The error spectrum plot shows a set of bar graphs arranged by carrier, each bar graph showing error points for that carrier collected over a plurality of symbol times. The error time plot shows errors over all carriers plotted as a symbol time series. Average errors in both plots may be indicated, and connected to show trends.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 19, 2001Publication date: March 20, 2003Inventors: Robert T. Cutler, Michael L. Patent number: 5615678Abstract: An integral yoke/transducer connector has built-in probe switches for detecting when a transducer probe has been removed from its yoke. Based on the status of the probe switch and other feedback information, a system controller activates the out-of-holder probe if it has priority. In this manner, a probe can be automatically activated when it is lifted out of its yoke, thereby eliminating the need to trace a desired probe to its connector/port via the cable. Once a probe/port is auto-selected, it remains the only active probe/port until the probe is placed back in the yoke (or its transducer connector is disconnected from the port on the imaging unit). Placement of the probe in its corresponding yoke opens the probe switch which is built into the yoke/connector assembly.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1994Date of Patent: April 1, 1997Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: Thomas R. Kirkham, Kirsten N. Laconte, Michael L. Hall, Jonathan E. Snyder, Edward S. Wallace, William H. Phillips, Jr., Robert L. Petersen, Jr.

Patent number: 5175828Abstract: A dynamic linker links a subprogram into an already complete program while the program is running. The linking is performed by initially creating a procedure in the subprogram with a name that matches a present procedure name within the program. The dynamic linker then compares the names to find the present procedure and replaces it with the subprogram procedure. The subprogram may contain one or more procedures that include additional functions. Procedure replacement techniques are described for RAM-and ROW-based systems. Unlike conventional linkers, the linking occurs while the program continues to run, preserving the program's data and state while changing or augmenting its functions.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1989Date of Patent: December 29, 1992Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Michael L.
