C. under conditions so that the water formed during the reaction is removed from the reaction mixture without the addition of a polymerization inhibitor or a dipolar solvent. The isocyanate can be converted to the fluorinated tertiary butylamine acid addition salt by acid hydrolysis or directly to the amine by treatment with base. In addition, the present amines can be prepared by reaction of a pivalic acid amide with hypochlorite.
