Abstract: The production of near-net geometry rings from a multi-component glass, in particular thick-walled rings with wall thicknesses of more than 10 mm. For this purpose, a ring-shaped blank is first produced from the multi-component glass using a casting process, in which a casting strand made of a glass melt of the multi-component glass is fed into a casting mold with a ring-shaped casting cavity running around a center axis. The casting strand hitting an impact zone diverges into a right-hand substream and a left-hand substream, with the substreams converging at a merging zone in the casting cavity and filling the casting cavity over at least part of its height. After the glass melt cools, a ring-shaped blank is obtained, which is further processed into a glass ring made of the multi-component glass.
