  • Patent number: 9489870
Abstract: Devices, systems, and methods appropriate for use in medical training are provided. In some implementations, the devices, systems, and methods are not dependent on external power supplies or internal batteries. A patient simulator is provided that includes a simulated patient body portion; and an electric-harvesting system positioned within the simulated patient body portion. The electric-harvesting system converts mechanical energy applied to the simulated patient body portion into electric energy for use by one or more components of the simulated body portion.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 27, 2014
Date of Patent: November 8, 2016
    Assignee: Gaumard Scientific Company, Inc.
Inventors: Alberto Rodriguez, Miguel Enrique Carvajal

  • Patent number: 8517740
Abstract: A patient simulator system for teaching patient care is provided. The system includes a patient simulator. The patient simulator includes a patient body comprising one or more simulated body portions. The one or more simulated body portions include a lung compliance simulation system in some instances. In that regard, the lung compliance system is configured to be used with an external ventilator, including positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) and assisted-control ventilation. In some instances, the lung compliance system includes a lung compartment, a simulated lung positioned within the lung compartment, where the lung compartment defines an available volume for the simulated lung to expand into and where the available volume for the simulated lung to expand into is adjustable to control a compliance of the simulated lung.

  • Patent number: 8500452
Abstract: A patient simulator system for teaching patient care is provided. The system includes a patient simulator. The patient simulator includes a patient body comprising one or more simulated body portions. The one or more simulated body portions include at least one simulated finger that is configured to interface with a pulse oximeter to simulate an oxygen saturation of the patient simulator. In some instances, the simulated finger is further configured to interface with the pulse oximeter to simulate a pulse rate of the patient simulator. In some embodiments, the simulated finger may be calibrated to accurately interface with a particular pulse oximeter. Methods of utilizing the patient simulator systems, including the simulated finger for interfacing with a pulse oximeter, are also provided.
