  • Patent number: 6965444
Abstract: Where monochromatic pages (image data of monochromatic originals) and color pages (image data of color originals) are mixed in a print job received from a personal computer via a network includes and a distribution mode is set, a printer controller controls printing by distributing the monochromatic pages to a monochromatic image forming apparatus and the color pages to a color image forming apparatus. If the printing of the color pages by the color image forming apparatus is completed but the printing of the monochromatic pages is not completed, the mode of the color image forming apparatus is switched to a monochromatic mode and the printing of the monochromatic pages is distributed in accordance with the printing speeds (monochromatic printing) of the color image forming apparatus switched to the monochromatic mode and the monochromatic image forming apparatus.

  • Patent number: 6535706
Abstract: An image forming system has a color scanner; an image processing part for processing image data obtained by reading a document by use of the color scanner; and an image forming part for forming an image on the basis of image data processed by the image processing part, wherein the color scanner reads a first original which includes a portion of a character or diagram having a first color, and a portion which is marked in a second color different from the first color so as to cover information of the character or diagram, and the image processing part edits image data of the marked portion of image data of the read first original. The editing process includes a process for rectangularizing the marked portion, and a process for connecting the rectangularized regions when the rectangularized regions are close to each other.

  • Publication number: 20020196485
Abstract: When a digital copying machine is switched on, a main CPU confirms whether the current timing is a timing at which an advertisement can be displayed on a display section. If operational inputs are being performed from the display section in the digital copying machine, the advertisement cannot be displayed and thus a normal image forming operation is controlled. If operational inputs are not being performed from the display section and the current timing is the timing at which the advertisement can be displayed, it is conformed whether an HDD stores a registered image as an advertisement image. If there is at least one registered image in the HDD, the at least one registered image is displayed on the display section at predetermined time intervals at the timing of the advertisement display in accordance with the priority level. The registered image in the HDD, whose remaining designated display time has reduced to zero, is deleted.

  • Patent number: 6389248
Abstract: A printer controller receives a printer job from external equipment and carries out the printer job using a printer. A user IF task accepts a reservation input for the use of a copying function using a scanner and the printer from a user while the printer job is being executed by the printer controller. Responsive to the copy reservation input, a job management task reserves the right of use of the scanner and the printer after the completion of the printer job in execution. If the printer is in operation when the user desires to use the copy function, the user is allowed to make a reservation for copying and then copy after the termination of the current printer job even if another printer job has been spooled.

  • Patent number: 6348974
Abstract: An image forming apparatus including CPU can eliminate an influence of a difference in access time by selecting a deletion mode of whether the image information of each page is deleted each time when printing of the page of the last copy of an original is finished or the image information of all the pages is in a lump deleted when printing of all the copies of the last copy of the original is finished in a sort mode according to whether or not a hard disk device is mounted when power is applied to the apparatus and enables at least an image information of a page read by a scanner to effectively create a file by generating near memory full in file creation of an image information, by switching possibility levels of concurrent operations of jobs based on the presence or absence of the hard disk device and a capacity of RAM.

  • Patent number: 5839014
Abstract: A mode for sorting sheets having two sides, on which images have been printed, is performed such that sheets each having one printed side are stacked in an automatic double side device, and the sheets stacked in the automatic double side device are sequentially extracted and conveyed. If a jam takes place during extraction and conveyance of the sheets, the position, at which the jam has taken place, is displayed on an LCD display unit. After the jammed sheet has been removed, the printing operation is caused to restart. If few sheets are stacked in the automatic double side device before the printing operation is completed, a copy key is depressed to perform control to perform the printing operation once again. Also, a method for replacing the images of the sheets which are jammed during the double sided copying operation is provided.

  • Patent number: 5839033
Abstract: An image forming apparatus and method for setting a binding margin. When a binding margin displayed on an LCD display unit of an operation panel has been set, a main CPU calculates a position, at which writing of the image of an original document starts, and magnification (an enlargement ratio or a reduction ratio) in accordance with a program stored in a ROM and to correspond to the binding margin and the size of sheets which are set by the LCD display unit and the size of the original document read by a scanner, and causes a printer to perform printing in accordance with a result of the calculation. When a binding margin has been set, the image of an original document can accurately be printed without loss of the image of an end portion of the image of the original document while maintaining the specified binding margin.

  • Patent number: 5774758
Abstract: A basic control portion stores image information read by a scanner in a page memory of a page memory portion through image processing means. When memory full takes place such that image information to be stored in the page memory is larger than the capacity of the memory in a case where a staple sorting mode has been set, the basic control portion suspends the staple mode and forms images in a set sorting mode by using image data stored in the page memory. As a result, even if memory full takes place in the staple mode, the image can normally be formed.
