  • Patent number: 6990537
Abstract: A method for controlling communication on a bus connecting a first processor, a second processor, and a device. The method transmits a first control signal from the first processor to the second processor via a control signal line, causing a bus connection of the second processor to enter a high-impedance state, transfers data between the device and the first processor via the bus, then setting a bus connection of the first processor to the high-impedance state, and transmits a second control signal from the first processor to the second processor via the control signal line, causing the bus connection of the second processor to exit the high-impedance state.

  • Publication number: 20040001704
Abstract: The present invention relates to devices and methods for processing data defining a still image slide show with background audio. An example system may include an optical disk player (e.g., DVD player) configured to read video and audio data from one or more storage media (e.g., DVD, compact flash device and/or hard disk). An example method may include presenting output signals containing data descriptive of a slide show with background audio in a mode or configuration selected by a user.

  • Patent number: 6636830
Abstract: The invention provides a perceptual audio signal compression system and method. One aspect of the invention described herein includes transforming the signal into a plurality of bi-orthogonal modified discrete cosine transform (BMDCT) frequency coefficients using a bi-orthogonal modified discrete cosine transform; quantizing the BMDCT frequency coefficients to produce a set of integer numbers which represent the BMDCT frequency coefficients; and encoding the set of integer numbers to lower the number of bits required to represent the BMDCT frequency coefficients.

  • Patent number: 5812197
Abstract: An MPEG based video signal compression system reduces picture degradation caused by sub-optimal selection of a prediction mode. A disclosed method produces a compressed video output signal from a video input signal. The video input signal is converted (57) into pixel blocks. Then, a plurality of predicted blocks are formed (60) as representations of an input block. Each predicted block is produced by a different prediction function and has an associated Correlation Factor CF which indicates the degree of correlation between the input block and a predicted block. This factor is obtained (35) by subtracting a measure of a low frequency varying correlation component from an index of correlation. The Correlation Factors are compared (45), and a compressed block associated with the predicted block with the lowest CF value is selected as an output block. This process is repeated for the other input blocks, and the selected compressed output blocks are combined to form the output signal.

  • Patent number: 5651078
Abstract: An encoding method and apparatus for conditioning video signal to reduce contouring in images reproduced from compressed video signal involves preconditioning the video signal, prior to completion of compression, to effectively amplify noise in portions of the video signal representing relatively smooth image areas. In an exemplary embodiment, a memory is programmed at respective address locations to remap amplitude values of a digitized signal applied as addresses to the memory. The programming is arranged to enlarge a range of lower amplitude values, and to effectively pass higher amplitude values unaltered.
