  • Publication number: 20050013045
Abstract: A depression is formed on the surface of a lower magnetic pole layer in a thin film magnetic head. A lower auxiliary magnetic pole is defined in the lower magnetic pole layer between the depression and a medium-opposed surface of a head slider. The depression is filled up with a non-magnetic material. When the thin film magnetic head is to be formed, no magnetic layer is formed on the lower magnetic pole layer for forming the lower auxiliary magnetic pole. A dry process such as sputtering and vapor-deposition can be employed to form the lower magnetic pole layer, so that a wider choice can be provided for the material of the lower magnetic pole layer and the lower auxiliary magnetic pole.

  • Patent number: 6813824
Abstract: A liquid resist is introduced between adjacent conductive lines of a coil pattern girdling around a magnetic core piece. When the liquid resist is cured, an insulating resin filler can be fixed between the adjacent conductive lines of the coil pattern. An insulating metallic layer is formed to extend over the insulting resin filler and the conductive lines of the coil pattern. Thereafter, the insulating metallic layer is subjected to a flattening grinding treatment until at least a part of the conductive line is exposed at a flattened surface. Of the resist, of a higher fluidity, penetrates in every hole and corner between the adjacent conductive lines, the gap defined between the adjacent conductive lines is fully filled with the insulating material. No voids remain in the gap. The conductive line of the coil can be reliably prevented from corrosion or oxidation. Moreover, a relatively brittle of fragile insulating resin filler is reliably prevented from being subjected to the flattening.

  • Patent number: 6804360
Abstract: An air intake noise reduction apparatus is provided which can effectively reduce air intake noise even with simple construction requiring a small number of components. Four air intake passages 24, 25, 26, 27 which each have different passage lengths are formed by connecting an upper wall 17 and a lower wall 18 of an air intake noise reduction duct 11 which are flattened in a vertical direction with three partition walls 21, 22, 23. Air intake noise can be reduced by making pulsating air interfere with one another which is generated in the plurality of air intake passages 24, 25, 26, 27 which each have the different passage lengths in such a manner as to have different phases shifted from one another. In addition, since the partition walls function as a reinforcement rib, the rigidity of the air intake noise reduction duct 11 can be enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6751052
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head includes an upper and a lower magnetic pole layer extending forward from a central magnetic core within a thin film coil. A narrow upper and lower front magnetic pole piece are connected to the front ends of the upper and lower magnetic pole layer, respectively. The upper front magnetic pole piece extends rearward from its front end exposed at a medium-opposed surface. The lower front magnetic pole piece extends in a lateral direction along the medium-opposed surface by a lateral width larger than that of the upper front magnetic pole piece. The lower front magnetic pole piece extends rearward from the medium-opposed surface by a longitudinal length smaller than that of the upper front magnetic pole piece. The lower front magnetic pole piece serves to concentrate the magnetic flux at the front ends of the upper and lower front magnetic pole pieces.

  • Patent number: 6404588
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head comprises a magnetic yoke piece exposed at a medium-opposed surface adjacent a gap layer. A magnetic yoke layer is connected to the magnetic yoke piece at a position retracting from the medium-opposed surface. The tip end of the magnetic yoke layer is exposed at the medium-opposed surface. A non-magnetic layer is interposed between the tip end of the magnetic yoke layer and the magnetic yoke piece at the medium-opposed surface. The non-magnetic layer serves to space the tip end of the magnetic yoke layer away from the other magnetic yoke layer which is separated by the magnetic yoke piece and a gap layer, for example, from the magnetic yoke layer. It is possible to reduce a magnetic field directed to the other magnetic yoke layer from the edges of the magnetic yoke layer protruding in the lateral direction of a data track. Such magnetic fields from the magnetic yoke layer hardly induce magnetic reversal on a magnetic recording medium such as a magnetic recording disk or tape.
