  • Patent number: 9032150
Abstract: Storage drives of a plurality of types are mounted on a storage device together. A storage apparatus includes: an I/O controller that receives an access request sent from an information apparatus and writes data to or reads data from a storage drive; a storage drive mounting unit in which the storage drive is detachably mounted; a drive power supplying unit that supplies drive power to the storage drive mounted in the storage drive mounting unit; and a drive voltage identifying unit that identifies a voltage allowing data write to or data read from the storage drive mounted in the storage drive mounting unit, by raising a drive voltage applied to the storage drive from a voltage below a rated drive voltage of the storage drive. When the I/O controller writes data to or reads data from the storage drive, the drive power supplying unit applies the identified voltage to the storage drive to drive the storage drive.

  • Publication number: 20130232377
Abstract: In a storage sub-system adopting a redundant configuration for preventing data loss and continuing processing during failure, when failure occurs, a controller unit in which failure has occurred is blocked so as not to affect the normal controller unit, so that the performance of the storage sub-system is deteriorated and the redundancy thereof is lost until maintenance and component replacement is performed. According to the present invention, self diagnosis of the blocked area is executed and a failure area is isolated. Then, the blocked area is reconnected to the storage sub-system, so as to prevent deterioration of performance and overload of the device until maintenance and replacement is performed, and to reduce the time of failure analysis during maintenance by specifying the detailed failure area via self diagnosis.

  • Patent number: 8190815
Abstract: To provide a storage subsystem in which, even when plural types of storage devices are provided, write processing from a cache memory to the plural types of storage devices is not delayed. Even when there are relative merits in writing performance of write data from the cache memory to the HDD and the SSD, the cache memories 13A, 13B with respect to the SSD having low writing performance are provided independently of the cache memories 12A, 12B with respect to the HDD.

  • Patent number: 7856514
Abstract: In a network regulated so that the unique identification information for a basic storage apparatus and that of each of a plurality of additional storage apparatuses do not overlap, the storage apparatuses can be connected to the network without being assigned unique identification information. The basic storage apparatus judges, when an additional storage apparatus is powered-on, whether or not an initial value is set in an identification information setting unit in the additional storage apparatus, the identification information setting unit being where unique identification information in the network is set. If it is judged that an initial value is set in the identification information setting unit, the basic storage apparatus enters a first mode in which it creates unique identification information, replaces the initial value with the created identification information, and recognizes the created identification information as unique identification information in the network.

  • Patent number: 7836349
Abstract: The storage control device of the present invention switch-connects each of enclosures and individually stops the transmission of power to the enclosures that are not being accessed in order to reduce the power consumption amount. A plurality of additional enclosures are switch-connected via an inter-device switch to a base enclosure. Drives that have not been accessed for a predetermined period of time or more undergo spindown. If all the drives in the enclosure then assume the spindown state, the supply of power to each of the drives from the intra-enclosure power supply is stopped. In cases where all the drives in a certain enclosure have undergone spindown, the base enclosure turns OFF the switch in the power distribution circuit connected to this enclosure. As a result, the transmission of power to this enclosure is stopped. The fault diagnosis section detects a fault that has occurred with communications that employ the inter-device switch and specifies the point of the fault occurrence.
