  • Publication number: 20060012296
Abstract: An organic electroluminescent display including: a supporting substrate; an organic electroluminescent element; a first passivation layer; a second passivation layer; a color conversion layer for adjusting and/or converting the color of a light emitted from the organic electroluminescent element; and a transparent substrate formed in sequence. Since the display has two passivation layers, a pinhole pass can be effectively blocked, thereby enhancing the sealing properties. Consequently a non-emission region such as a dark spot is hardly formed, and therefore the display can have excellent durability.

  • Publication number: 20050218819
Abstract: An organic EL display device and a method of producing the same wherein superior connection reliability can be obtained between a thin film transistor and a lower electrode of an organic EL element even if a color-converting medium is provided adjacent light-emitting face of the organic EL element. For this purpose, in an active-driving type organic EL display device comprising an organic EL element made so as to have an organic luminous medium sandwiched between an upper electrode and a lower electrode, and a thin film transistor for controlling luminescence of the organic EL element, the luminescence of the organic EL element is taken out from the lower electrode, a color-converting medium is provided adjacent the lower electrode, and an inclined electrically connecting member is set between the lower electrode and the thin film transistor.

  • Publication number: 20050146266
Abstract: An organic EL device (2) and an sealing layer (3) are formed on a supporting substrate (1). The top surface (31) of the sealing layer is made repellent to ink. Ink is printed by an ink jet method to form a coloring layer (4). A flattening layer (8) is formed, and thereafter a sealing substrate (5) is bonded. Since the coloring layer (4) is not previously formed on the sealing substrate (5), no precise positioning for bonding the sealing substrate (5) to the supporting substrate (1) is needed. The viewing angle properties are enhanced since the distance between the organic EL device (2) and the coloring layer (4) can be small. Thus, there are provided an organic EL display of top emission type with a high production yield and excellent viewing angle properties and its production method.

  • Publication number: 20050116619
Abstract: An organic EL element (200) emits light containing a blue component (B) and a component (?) with a peak in 500 to 600 nm. A red converting member (360) has an excitation spectrum with a peak in 500 to 600 nm. The red converting member receives light from the organic EL element (200) and converts the blue component (B) to a red component (R). At this time, the luminance of the red component (R) is enhanced since the member (360) is strongly excited by the component (?). As a result, the white balance of three colors is improved. Therefore a color emission device (100) can be provided where the intensity of red light is enhanced.

  • Patent number: 6844670
Abstract: An organic EL element (100) emits light containing blue, green and red components. A blue color filter (420) transmits only the blue component. A green-converting member (340) converts the blue component to the green component, and a green color filter (440) transmits only the green component. A red-converting member (360) converts the blue component and the green component to the red component, and a red color filter (460) transmits only the red component. Since the respective color filters (420, 440 and 460) block unnecessary color components, the reproducibility of the respective color is improved. Since the luminescence of the organic EL element (100) contains the green component and the red component besides the blue component, white balance becomes good. It is therefore possible to provide a color luminous device from which improved light rays in the three primary colors can be emitted.
